My dad gave me a call the other week, saying that he wanted get me something as a bit of a present to keep kinda thing.

He said the budget was a couple of hundred quid and suggested something like a watch, but I only really wear my G-Shock or a nice DNKY one my missus got me a while ago.

He asked what I wanted and I can only really think of bike related gubbins, but they’re not exactly long term keepers if you know what I mean.

Original art of some sort? Painting/sculpture, something you’ll like and want to keep with you through your life. NOT a cheesy portrait of the old man in a stately home stylee.

I drive, don’t drink anything that’d go in a hip flask, wouldn’t wear sheep shaped/embossed/engraved anything, don’t really do jewelry other than my wedding ring, custom headbadge is just daft – if I change bikes it’l be useless.

My dad bought me a quality knife that I use for fishing and so on…had it for years.

On a similar line to the rifle suggestion….what about a shotgun, then you can take up clay pigeon shooting with your dad.

How about getting him to teach you some skill that he’s got, if possible? Like wood-working or something?

Free (or he could buy you the necessary tools etc), and allows you to spend time together in a nice positive way. And you’ll always remember it.

My Dad gave me an inquisitive mind and a love of science, engineering, nature and music. I hold onto those 🙂

What interests do you share? Doesn’t matter what the interest is, but say it was fishing, ask for a rod of his choice. Try to give him the subject, then he can choose, it’ll make whatever it is all the more special in the end.
