I know the obvious contenders at Garmin with the 800/100/Touring etc, but everyone seems to whinge about the software. Any others I should be looking at?

I want to be able to:

- have 1:50k OS maps displayed on it
- be able to upload a .gpx to display on the displayed map
- ideally get turn-by-turn directions
- ideally have a cadence monitor/display

as well as decent colour screen, decent battery life and all that jazz.

Is it Garmin, Garmin and nothing but the Garmin?

I have a Polar V650. I wouldn't really recommend it, but they can be had for not too much £££

It doesn't tick all your boxes (no turn by turn navigation per se but a view with the map and the route highlighted). It's full of little niggles that absolutely drive me bonkers, however.

Everyone seems to be raving about the Wahoo Elemnt although I'm pretty certain that doesn't have a colour screen. The other option might be the Lezyne, much cheaper but again without the colour screen.

So yeah, colour screen = Garmin

Word of advice - don't buy a 1000. They're crap!

There's the 60, but that doesn't get particularly great reviews either
