Mr Crud rear mudguards

Just gone to take mine off and the metal part the allen bolt screws into just spins inside the plastic – no grip and I can’t undo the bolt.

Anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you undo it? More than likely I’ve overtightened it, but looking at the reviews on CRC a few people have had the same problem (yeah, we’re all numpties and we’ve all over done it).

It’s a common problem.

Apparently the root cause is that the rubber shims are too thin – you should basically use the biggest seatpost shim that you can so that you don’t have to tighten it up so much. I heard that they’ll be doing a wider shim for the smaller seatpost sizes – eg 27.2

Just drop Mr Crud an email via their website and they’ll post you out a new bracket free of charge. Alternatively whoever you bought it off should be able to sort it out. Peter Tomkins at Crud sorted me out very quickly, all is good now 🙂

I think I used a pair of pliers to stop the metal from from spinning. A right pain in the butt but eventually worked.

Pliers didn’t work for me so I drilled a small hole in the bolt and could then unscrew it (using the drill bit to stop it spinning).

Used a bit of inner tube to pad out the shim and it’s now working fine. Mine was a 27.2 seatpost too.

I’ve tried with pliers but I just can’t get a grip on the metal part.

Anyways, I’ve emailed them and I’ll try a chunkier bit of rubber next time.

Same darn thing happened to me. felt a right plonker for over tightening (or so I thought). Tried pliers etc with no joy and thought that I had already ruined a Christmas present.

Bloody nora. It turned up this morning!

Different design to the old part. Complete with new “rubber” too.

Installed already – looks so much nicer than the Topeak Defender I was using in the interim.
