King infamously hated it as it didn’t really follow the book or what he wanted the central premise of the book to be but that’s totally immaterial, it’s one of the greatest horror/ thrillers ever made imo.
Yeah, stephen king film adaptations are notoriously hit and miss… ‘It’ and ‘the stand’ and ‘the green mile’ are superb, and ‘Carrie’ was pretty good too, but there are twice as many, at least, adaptations that are best forgotten.
I really like King as an author, he’s had moments of true excellence, but he’s also written some dross too, so it’s a hard thing to quantify.
I read ‘sleepers’, a few years back, a colab with him and his son, I belive. It was reasonably decent, but could be made into a great film or a terrible film depending on a lot of factors.
