I must confess, I’ve never actually seen it.
    so think I’ll remedy that.

It’s a movie you have to watch at least once in your life. King infamously hated it as it didn’t really follow the book or what he wanted the central premise of the book to be but that’s totally immaterial, it’s one of the greatest horror/ thrillers ever made imo.

Went to the hotel in 2022. Mostly for the skiing though.

A deeply unsettling classic. The opening scene with that music…shudder.

It’s on BBC 4 every few days just now, I’ve picked up where I left it the other night. It’s a slow burner but quite creepy.

Yeah, stephen king film adaptations are notoriously hit and miss… ‘It’ and ‘the stand’ and ‘the green mile’ are superb, and ‘Carrie’ was pretty good too, but there are twice as many, at least, adaptations that are best forgotten.

I really like King as an author, he’s had moments of true excellence, but he’s also written some dross too, so it’s a hard thing to quantify.

I read ‘sleepers’, a few years back, a colab with him and his son, I belive. It was reasonably decent, but could be made into a great film or a terrible film depending on a lot of factors.

So many great moments in this film. One of my favourites has always been when his wife reads what he’s been endlessly typing on the typewriter… the dawning and terrifying realisation that he is utterly and completely insane is reflected in her face superbly.

RIP Shelley Duvall, although apparently Nicholson was pretty awful to her while making this.

One of the great psychological horrors. The King novel is just as good, just in a totally different way.

I liked Christine (although I haven’t seen it for a while and it may not live up to my memory of it). And of course Shawshank Redemption.

I thought it was Kubrick who was hard on her – and whoever it was, they spoiled her character/performance IMO

Great movie, great book – for totally different reasons.

I’ve always seen this as a film for Winter though… dark nights, isolation. Perfect.

Doctor Sleep (book and film) is a decent sequel that answers the question “What did Danny Torrence grow up to become?”. Mike Flanagan nails a pitch perfect tone between paying respects to The Shining novel and Kubrick film whilst also adding his own flair.

(and if anyone is a total film nerd like me, the What Went Wrong podcast episode on The Shining is very good!)

Thought this would be a good watch with my son the other week, a bit of retro thriller horror classic.

Completely forgot about the excruciatingly long nude scene in the middle.
