    Hi

Would anyone have any recommendations for mountain biking organised trips/guides and/or trails in Utah, America?

    Thanks

Moab was great but you need to manage the weather, Slickrock is a bit overrated (well the locals were honest – it’s the oldest not the best)
Whole Enchilada is awesome along with a lot of other trails around there.
Park City and the other joined resorts are very good and with uplift
Didn’t get much chance to hit the red dirt down Virgin/Rampage way but loads around. Heaps of tours and lots of pay for uplift.

What kind of riding you after? Vastly preferred Oregon, but that might be completely irrelevant.

EDIT: A friend who showed us round Utah worked for these guys. Can’t vouch for them per se as we didn’t use the company, but have been highly envious of some trips he posts up on FB.

Trails are so easy to find out there you dont need guides
see my website http://www.mtb-hol.com for some past trips i’ve done to Utah for ideas (Gave up updating the site a few years back – but theres plenty of utah stuff on it)
use mtbproject & trailforks for trail gpx as already said

We bought a book and a map and went ridding. Loads of advice in shops. Way easier than say the lakes to work things out for yourself

I really really liked it but I think that alot of it is loving the scenery so your mileage may vary

I did enjoy the Slick Rock trail. Porcupine Rim was great….

Its not too hot if you go at the correct time of year

Western Spirit would be my first choice. They’re local and know their stuff.

Watch out for excessive drivetrain wear around Salt Lake City. 😉

I did a trip with Rob from wild bikes last year, not to Utah mind, but he is doing a trip out there next year.

My mate has done quite a few trips with Western Spirit (who are based in Moab). https://westernspirit.com

ETA: just noticed mtbcoach got there first! So +1

I was booked on their Brian Head one but dislocated a finger 30 minutes before departure…. 😳 my mate said it was dome of the best mountain biking he’d ever done… 🙄

    They seem like good peoples.

    I really liked Porc Rim.

    Fruita

Close, but that’s in CO, not UT.

As above, it may not be really answering the question but…
Fly to Grand Junction, CO (probably change in Denver) and rent a car.
Stay in GJ/ Fruita area for a couple of nights, as the riding there is great.
Drive down to Moab, taking the 128 for the amazing views of the red gorges – also stop in Cisco ghost town.
…and pick up a guide book in one of the many bike shops. Everywhere’s driveable, so you can head up to Porcupine Rim, Slick Rock, into the hills for some woodland riding, etc.
Plus it gives you the freedom to go to Arches, Dead Horse point, and Bartlett Wash (which is an awesome playground, totally deserted, just a huge sandstone rolling rock formation).

Porcupine rim, probably the best ride I’ve done. Slickrock, because it’s the Slickrock trail, but as above I didn’t think it was that great. Fruita was good but this was about 12-13 years ago so I imagine they’ve only got better

Utah is awesome for skiing, but always wanted to ride there too, so interested in this also.

In winter I fly to and stay in Salt Lake City, hire a car and drive to resorts (loads of them to choose from). For MTB that would get me round Park City and such areas. Moab is a bit of a drive. Though Whole Enchilada is definitely on the must do list.

p.s. Direct flights available to SLC from Heathrow now with Delta/Virgin, finally. Can also get direct to Denver of course (only BA).

Yeah I flew to SLC and stayed in Park for 10 days with work, plenty of big mountains there and a very short transfer from SLC which is a bonus after a long flight. As the shuttle driver pointed out it takes while to get from Denver to the mountains.

I’m hoping to get back out next October again maybe as a longer trip.

Loads of good beers (surprisingly for America. They’ve got pretty good at the whole microbrew thing).

Only catch is Utah’s booze laws. Everything is 4% or less generally except in liquor stores and licenced “clubs”, but you don’t have to become a member any more so it’s basically just like any other bar.
