    Interesting how the embankments/trackside vegetation has changed too – either it’s now being managed for wildlife rather than kept barren, or they’ve stopped spending as much on maintenance.

    I was quite surprised how many of the stations were still there, it’s the junctions that have gone.

    But by 1983 and 2013 there was far more trackside vegetation – in the steam era trees were cut back to reduce the risk of fires from hot ash.

    On similar lines, it’s quite hazy in the 1958 film, I wonder how much of that is due to smoke from the trains.
