I think I’m on a medium foxy. I had a 10mm stem on then swapped it to a 30mm stem. The 30 pulled me forward and down a bit. It also looks more normally.
I can’t remember if it was any twitchier.
I think it must have been less twitchy. With a 10mm, the effective stem length from where your hands lie would be negative (behind the steerer) due to the handlebar backsweep.
I’ve got a Mondraker Craft in M so 470 reach with a 30mm stem – it feels long as hell. Especially when I jump on another bike, which is weird because my Transition Scout is 460mm and has a 42.5mm stem so reach should be the same if not a tiny bit longer.
How tall are you? I’m 5ft 8 and my bike is the same reach and stem as your Scout.
(For what it’s worth, I tried a 30mm stem on the Transition and didn’t like how it changed the handling)
I sometimes wish I’d sized down just because the Mondy is a huge a bike all in all, but once I’m on it and riding it all just fits – definitely don’t have twitchy steering.
Interesting. Crafty is 65.5 head angle, Scout 64. Steeper and shorter stem should both make it twitchier.
