longish pretty strong steel strip with 'oles drilled in it

what are they called in the shops ?

We call it galvy banding at work. Probably a much more technical term for it though.

cheers, nm - seems "galvanised band" (I'm posh, see) is something flexible that comes in rolls. I'm after a 2-3 foot rigid strip really

I see. In that case I shall take my common galvy banding and bugger off elsewhere 😉

can you not just go to an engineering place and get some strips of the size/thickness you want drilled

Wall plate straps are pretty rigid.

Anything flat will have a bit of flex so you might need angle like dexion.

So some sort of builders metalwork is what I'm after. Once I've worked out how I'm going to do what I want I can buy a couple of bizarrely named bits of mild steel

(is toolstation big with the ninja crowd ?)
