Having a problem with my mavic crosstrail rear wheel.
There’s a lot of movement in my cassette, I’ve checked its tight so is the freewheel on its way out?
There’s also a strange noise now and again when prdaling in certain gears too
Are they replaceable or is it new wheel time, what’s my options?

What year? Most magic parts are replaceable though.

Happened to me with my Crossmax ST, cassette all wobbly and noises. It’s the two small bearings in the freehub. I got ebay replacements and presed them in with a vice- jobs a good un. Defo not a new wheel – £10 or less of bearings.

Not sure on year, they’ll be a good 3/4 years old though….

Its not a new wheel or even a new hub at £70 or so. Have a look on ebay for a Mavic hub service kit. There are new pawls and springs, bearins and so on but importantly, a white nylon or ptfe bush. This is whats worn and makes the cassette wobble. Some kits have two of these bushes, standard and 0.03 oversize….

You can probably stop the roaring noise of the freewheel with a bit of grease but its on the way out and needs replacing.

DIY job with allen keys, look for a how to on youtube. Simples.
