My daughter’s external hard drive on her MacBook – a Seagate Ultra Touch, 1TB, Portable External Hard Drive ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07LGDLPCB/ ) has died.

Annoyingly, she was doing backups in some form, but through a series of bad luck and bad decisions her external hard drive was not being backed up to her Backblaze account, and this drive was also her Time Machine backup.

As far as I can tell by plugging it into my MacBook, it’s maybe the controller? About 50% of the time after plugging it in it will pop-up in my drive list (Disk Utility) for anywhere from 10 – 30 seconds. Enough time for it to appear and for the Mac to complain when it disappears without ejecting, but not enough time to image/copy it.

I have tried Disk Drill, but it’s having same issue.

Any other ideas, before I order the same again off Amazon and attempt to take it apart and swap parts – if that’s even a feasible option?
