    Godammit.

Guess who didn’t backup a few of years’ worth of photos, iTunes, correspondence…?

    🙁

I’m no techno-geek, but long-story-short, my work’s G5 Mac HD starting running slower and slower after 3 or 4 years faultless usage. Startup took ages etc. Coincidentally, another HD of exactly the same age in our office expired just before mine. Had the HD replaced, but was told the data was unrecoverable.

I wondered if there are any specialists out there. Anyone recommend someone cheap/good who can at least have a go at recovering my photo library?

    there’s specialist recover companies.

You’ll pay *a lot* but they can get data off pretty much anything…

Depends if the drive is spinning or not. If you need to mess about doing a platter level recovery you will be spending a few hundred, if its juts a read error or some bad sectors, I/you could recover files quite easily with some HDD leads and some software like photorec.
