Just purchased a brand new Rockshox SID from ebay. Buyer had purchased from CRC/Wiggle, so they may have sat in the box/shelf for some time (possibly years?). Is it likely that if a fork sits horizontally in the box for a few months/years the oil will seep out the fork via the rubber dust seals? Worth doing a lower leg service before fitting? Assume there’s no way of knowing except to pop the lowers off?

after heading various stories about dry forks I did a brand new set.  Its simple and only takes a few minutes.  Mine were fine – not dry at all

Oil should not leak out of the fork no matter how its stored

I would new or not. I’ve had new forks with no oil internally and other with the air shaft with big blobs of grease on.

    I’d 100% be servicing them.

I fitted two sets of SID forks to my bikes about 18 months back. One set had plenty of oil in the lowers, the others had absolutely nothing and the foam rings were bone dry.

Service it is then. Ordered some “Maxima Plush dynamic suspension lube heavy”, charts show 10ml in both leg chambers.
