My car failed it’s MOT recently, I was expecting it to. I’ve had it for 13 years so Im happy.

I’ve advertised it honestly on Gumtree and I’ve had loads of interest in it. How Much 2day M8 etc.

Anyway, wanted to ask. What’s the deal with selling a car with no MOT?

    Ta.

I’d say inform DVLA + cancel insurance and tax the minute it’s gone. Make sure buyers details are legit too.

    Nicole?

    That’s showing your age 🤣

It would have to be trailered away, there’s no legal way round that. Even a dealer with trade plates can’t drive a car without a valid MOT.

You can do what Dickyboy says, but even that takes time and they could crash 100m down the road.

Or you could change it all before you hand them the keys and let them drive off.

Driving a car without an MOT is a problem for the driver, not the registered keeper. So if you sell it and they drive it off and get caught their problem.

Not sure if ANPR will pickup a lack of MOT, but just get the new buyer to sign and date a receipt. Then if you get a grumpy letter saying you were driving a car without an MOT you have evidence that the car has been sold.

    Papa?

Many years ago I met a girl while working in a pub together. She was 18 and I was 27. I drove a Clio and it was around the time the advert was on the telly. We had to endure that ‘joke’ constantly from all of the regulars.

Still, I ended up marrying her and having kids together 🙂

You can do the ownership transfer on line as they give you the cash. Saves posting forms off and the transfer is instant

In the real world, just update the DVLA and cancel insurance – you won’t have any comeback that can’t be dealt with.
