Its been far too long our of London for me to remember what options there are in Central London for good quality pub grub!

I realise its tourist mecca but I want to avoid the busy, noisy mediocre chain pubs. The Devonshire came recommended but its full.

Its for a Monday lunchtime rather than a Friday night and would ideally be somewhere that is possible to actually have a conversation rather than struggling to hear yourself think!

There are always out of the way type pubs in London but its finding one! Any clues?

The Fox and Pheasant is my go to when i’m around Chelsea. It’s a cracking boozer and the food is incredible. I’ve done a good few meetings in here….highly recommended.

It’s SW10 so may not be as central as you’re hoping for.

Wasn’t the Winchester a drinking club rather than a boozer? I don’t remember Arfer or Tel eating there either.

The Guinea Grill is a decent alternative to The Devonshire.

I’ve not eaten at any of them in a while but if you want really good food in a pub setting The Eagle at Farringdon is kind of the OG (probably helped by being a few doors up from the old Guardian offices).

Chefs from there opened The Anchor & Hope at Waterloo and The Canton Arms in Stockwell both of which were great when I last went.

If I’m more central than those then I don’t tend to eat pub food as so many more interesting options.

Lore of the Land and Anchor & Hope are both great fits, but both don’t open on Monday lunchtimes!

French House. It’s in Soho, old London pub, proper restaurant food. Good people watching.
