Looking for a smartwatch with GPS to wear on the bike for the odd Strava run. My phone is a bit rubbish so it doesn’t register runs sometimes. Thought a smart watch might work better but I could be wrong. Have looked at Apple watches but they’re £££. Are there any other smart watches that are a bit cheaper but will fit the bill?

Yup, I’d say whichever Garmin fits your budget, they all do the sort thing very well.

Garmin Venu if you just want the basics but to spend less and have more battery life than an Apple watch.

Polar GPS watches are good, and some good deals pop up – I got mine for £135 in an Amazon sale as opposed to the normal £240.

Also, may be of use, I asked a similar question a few days ago.

    What fitness tracker / smartwatch?

You want something that needs charging every single day too? 😉

How about using your STW discount on the garmin store.

The swim 2 at £150 looks like  great value, can be used out of the water as well

40mm Apple Watch SE is £219.00 – how much less do you need it to be?

Garmin Forerunner 55 is what I use. Battery lasts for 5-6 days and records all manner of activities. There are better and spendier versions as this is their basic entry-level model, but it has everything that I need. About £150 I think, although there are often sales (and STW discount).

I’ve got a Garmin Instinct Solar in flame red going up for sale now my Epix has arrived courtesy of an earlier PSA.

Garmins are generally good, a bit more of a sports watch with GPS than a mini-phone on your wrist, but lots of crossover with features (and also price ranges).

No direct experience of them but I saw an ad for a Wahoo element rival for £100 odd on amazon. Might be worth a look?

I find Apple watches and Garmin watches to be quite different, so you might want to narrow down what you are looking for first.

Apple watches are more like a remote screen and sensor(s) for your phone – they’re really good at that and can do some sports tracking. I find my phone stays in my pocket/drawer more as my watch is handling most things (good for preventing me doom scrolling).

Garmin are really good at the sports tracking and do some of the remote screen/sensor thing. If you primarily want the GPS functionality, then this is more what you should be looking for.

Was about to say the same thing. I have an SE and despite being a card carrying Apple fanboi and gadgetoholic I haven’t been able to justify upgrading.

Apple released a new one today perhaps the fawning apple fans out there may be selling their old ones or the last gen ones will get a price cut either way nothing new under the sun as usual from apple

CMF by Nothing watch pro 2 looks great for £69 but I don’t think they have sorted the Strava integration properly yet (mapping after activity)

A shame as it’s a nice watch for the money.
