Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a Lapierre X-Control 110 2012 26" and just wondered if people could let me know what they think it's worth as I don't want to be paying over the odds for it.

The only things that have been changed is the forks to Fox 32 160mm and brakes to Shimano Deore.

Thank you.

Dont think they were expensive new, so haggle?

similar on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lapierre-mountain-bike-/222058982113?hash=item33b3bf2ae1:g:dysAAOSwr7ZW3eer 'completed' at £485 which usually means they accepted an offer below that to sell it.

What would you say it's worth Bregante? It comes with the original Rock Shox XC28 forks?

Ver666n the bloke I'm buying it off is asking £500 do you think it's worth that with the Fox forks and new Shimano Deore brakes? I'm new to MTB and don't want to get ripped off.

They were a grand new and it's now 4 years old. Personally I wouldn't give more than 400 in good nick.

^This.
Plus I would change or shorten the forks again.

As mentioned above, it's designed for 120mm forks, adding an extra 40mm of travel is going to make it handle weird.

Personally, Id be looking for something else. It's a difficult place if you don't know much about bikes, to buy something secondhand. Lots of pitfalls.

I'd be asking on here for some suggestions of what bike to get. Give us an idea of the type of riding you want to do, and where you ride and budget, and there could be some suggestions.

+1

That style of bike is a great starting point, just probably not that one.
For that budget, your probably looking at giant anthem (xc) trance (trail) have a look in the for sale section on here

Sorry in reply to your question, its a decent bike but a little high priced especially if its been thrashed which putting a long fork on it would indicate.

I have managed to get the bloke down to £450 and he's throwing in some wheel decals, mudguards and inner tubes? I like the look of the bike and it's the perfect sized frame?

It's £450, if I use it for a year and then sell it for £350/400 I'd lose a lot more on a new bike surely?

Like so many before, you're gonna buy it regardless of what we say, as you're set on it.

You'll struggle to sell it, and a new bike comes with a warranty, and won't need any parts replaced for hopefully 6-12 months. You may find that the bearings are shot, the chain is stretched, you need a new cassette, chainrings etc...

Personally, Id buy a relatively new secondhand bike (2015), or buy new on 0% credit.

throwing in some wheel decals

don't be swung by free stickers.

I think you've probably already decided you're going to buy it but the above advice is all good.

Just be careful of the penbox rear suspension system, the one on my mates has just been through a warranty job as they can be hard to maintain.

Something like this would be a good start.

This would be better value than the £200 it will cost
