  • KMC chain link – bit missing?

    Santa brought me a singlespeed kit (the top one on this page). Unless I’m being dense, I think I might be missing a bit from the chain – here’s what I have:

    The plate with the holes in seems too small to match either of the ones with pins – it looks like the holes are a millimetre to close together so it can’t slide over both pins at once. Presumably what I should have is something on this page, but if someone who knows their onions could confirm I’d be much obliged.

    Put the link into the chain then bend the chain sidewards and the plate will pop onto the link.

    It doesn’t need one.

    That’s why the plate will only go on when the chain’s bent sideways. 😉

    Stu, can you elaborate on what you mean by bending it sidewards? Should I be able to do it with bare hands or is it best to use some pliers too?

    Flex the chain sideways.

    As opposed to the way it bends round the chainring and cog.

    No tools needed.
