There is a decentish playground, cafe and visitor centre (and bike shop) at the car park. Its also not too far from Newton Stewart and Gatehouse of Fleet with more non-bikey options.

Cream o Galloway is not too far away

gem rock museum at Creetown not far away

What weekend? There are probably more things to do re special events nearer the time. eg local agri shows are due to start, good for those that don`t live in the countryside

As above good play area and cafe + forest walks. There is also a forest drive.

Why not leave the family behind and go with your riding buddies. Get a cheap bunkhouse or B&B for the night and have a few beers with the lads.

You could plan a different weekend away with the family without bikes.

Mabie farm park is not too far away and a great day out. Also some cracking beaches in the area. We found Dalbeatie taster loop great for my boy (3 and a half). No long climbs and plenty of interest. It’s a cracking area for everything IMHO.
