My lad has got his heart set on a wooden 'one up - one down' wooden playhouse thing for the garden for his 6th birthday.

A bit of googling - plenty of selection and price range. Just wondering what the singletrackworld "I've got one of these" recommendations will show?

Are they easy to put up? Do they need a lot of maintenance - paint / roof etc?

We have a custom built 2 floor which is attached to a commercial swing/slide combination

The playhouse is built around a frame of 75mm fence posts which are then OSB outside and plywood inside (leaving 50mm for foam insulation) and the OSB is then faced with tiles or decking painted with the 5yr ducksback.

If I did it again I'd fit a rubber roof as well as the rubber roofs under the upper walkways... (after doing this I fitted one to the new bike shed)

Years ago I bought this for my lad from a place called 'all garden fun.com' - a shire garden play house.

I paid £400 for it about 4 years ago, so it's gone up a bit now.

I build a solid wooden base out of decking timbers.

It's a great bit of kit. I'm in the process of ply lining and insulating it!

As you can see, I painted mine - the pain has lasted very well, tbh.
It's got a little mezanine in there too..

We got ours for free from a local Freecycle group - spent £30 or so on wood to repair bits of it and fortunately I had some spare roof felt. Painted it in Cuprinol Shades inside and out (with a panel of blackboard paint on the inside too) and it has (so far) lasted another three years. This picture was taken yesterday - we've removed a whole load of laurel and are about to 'transplant' a very similar playhouse from the grandparent's house somewhere further along and create some walkways/ropes etc.
