Anyone got a KCNC crankset and can tell me if they are worth it, or should I just go for XTR?

    Specifically this one – http://bit.ly/mmRGVZ

kcnc looks sweet and has the niche factor, if there’s no diff in price I’d go with the tried & tested xtr though.

kcnc is a bit cheaper and lighter, and it’s the lightness that interests me. I was really just wondering how well it would last.

Been running my KCNC crankset for about 3 months now, riding around 20 hours each week (out time), it takes some careful installation – follow the instructions, and a lot of torque (30Nm) – but once setup is great. The Q-factor means that your pedalling is more efficient and you dont get any shoe rub on the crank arms. The shifting is spot-on, and they look very nice too.

The arms and the axle is very stiff – I dont notice any flex when mashing the pedals.

If you get a chance, have a word with Clee-Cycles – they’re very informed, incredibly helpful and will be able to sort you out a set and also work out if they’re right for what you want.

2mm wider qfactor than my M985 crank arms, bet there is less than 50g in the weight of the 2

resale value on the xtr will always be higher (there is always something newer round the corner you will lust after)

seen the kcnc struggle to go for 100 quid

That’s at least two Mars bars :p

I like the KCNC stuff, could be just cause its a bit different – it works, and the after sales support from Clee is excellent.

I like the Shimano stuff too, and run SLX on my other bike, as it’s great value, not much heavier than XT and can take a real bashing without making me cry.
