The strange squares that are over the tiberium... they also show when units are firing, dust is rising etc...
Any ideas STW? Is there a setting on my card (HD 4870) that needs changing or something? Has just started happening...

I'd start with getting hold of the latest ATi drivers, see if that fixes it.
Does it do it when you first switch on the PC?

try the graphics settings for the game, if there is something for particles try a different setting otherwise pick a lower spec "overall" graphic setting for the game.
4870 should be fine running that I bet it's outdated drivers too.
