Might be interested in the range DrP
Drop me some details will you?
Cash and trailer available!Hey, wait a minute, was this actually just an elaborate scam so DrP could advertise his range in the main forum rather than on the classifieds?
Well done if so.
thisisnotaspoonFree MemberThis whole “who’s going to pay the paypal fee” question should never come up, it puts me right off. I never pay by gift out of principle, I know people who have been scammed that way.
And there’s probably an equal number of people who have been scammed sending items which is followed by a paypal dispute, which is almost always resolved in the buyers favor regardless of any evidence.
So in essence the gift Vs goods/services option is simply who in the transaction is going to take 100% of the risk that the other is a scammer. If the buyer want’s to pay by PP without the gift option then I’d expect them to cover the fee’s and be prepared to send me some form of proof of address.
If the buyer wants to make a grownup decision to trust me on the basis I’ve been winding people up and selling stuff on here for almost a decade and unlikely to scam them then that’s their decision to make, they don’t have to buy whatever it is. Likewise if I’m buying something for more than chicken feed then I’ve asked for (redacted) payslips, drivers licence etc, anything with an address on it.
Ohh, and if Dr P is in any way local, we’re after an extractor hood for our range cooker, how big is it?
DrPFull MemberAnd he reels them in….. 😉
900mm stainless extractor, 900mm range….
I’ll email interested parties later!
DrP
funkrodentFull Memberthis is all good stuff. I’ve had a few email chats with various Nigerian Princes / sons of dead dictators, that sort of thing. However, if you want to see how a top pro does it – and have a good laugh into the bargain – then you have to read “Delete This at Your Peril”. It’s by a writer who created an alter ego – Bob Sergeant from Broughty Ferry in Dundee – with the sole intention of wasting the time of scammers. It is very good and very, very funny
10Full Memberwasting the tie of scammers
Was it just clothes he was getting or white goods too?
poolmanFree Memberanother comedy gold thread!!!
I once advertised a flat rental on gummy, OMG I must have got 100 strange email requests. So I just asked every emailer to bring ID in the form of passport to the viewing.
How many replied?
None
Funny cos I bought loads of things off gummy – 2 Bromptons (with purchase receipts)

They don’t seem like scammers.
They paid you, and you kept the money.
You didn’t send the item. Who got scammed?Oh they were scammers alright – anyone legit would have been happy to supply proof of ID to get an iPad they’d just paid for. I offered to post, they refused (addresses they gave eBay and paypal were dodgy) . I offer to meet up to exchange, again they refused.
In the end they got scammed. I’m fine with that.
nealgloverFree MemberI’m fine with that.
As long as it wasn’t a hacked PayPal account, and someone innocent lost £300, I’m fine with it too 😉
alexandersupertrampFree MemberUsed Gumtree today for the first time. Listed my mums sofa and an hour later had this now familiar email from a Julie Fisher. Was this the same person ?
Great! please consider it sold and cancel every other appointment regarding it as i am willing to pay your full asking price because i need to buy it for my cousin asap, i have read through the advert and i’m totally satisfied with it,sadly i would not be able to come personally to collect due to my hearing loss and me being in wheelchair.
I have a courier agent that would help me to pick it up at your preferred location after you have received your money and i’ll pay you via PayPal today.
Where is the pick up location so that i can inform the courier agent about it now?swanny853Full MemberMaybe DrP could drop it off for you on his tour of the south west?
jimmyFull MemberSo I’ve just had the same email in reply to a bike I’m selling on Gumtree. Thing is, it’s the same email word for word so I’d expect it to be the same person or people doing it. Shouldn’t be hard to catch them, right? Unless *literally* no one is stupid enough to fall for it and therefore no theft has ever taken place.
I’m baffled as to who trawls gumtree doing this, if it’s worth their while how they haven’t been caught, and if it isn’t worth their while… Ok I’m going to concentrate on something more productive now.
globaltiFree MemberI think they go to scamming school in Nigeria where they are given specimen letters.
Actually, I reckon the scammers are being scammed by the “school” who will have taken Naira off them for the use of the computers, some tuition etc. all on the promise of getting rich quick.
….a bit like giving money to an employment consultant then.
FunkyDuncFree MemberI’ve a ‘deal going down’
i could strap you and your chair in the back and quite happily take you to the nearest cashpoint.
Perhaps Rose is waiting for her local Constabulary to come and arrest you for being some kind of organised crime/kidnapper ? 😆

MrsAlias calls me 0700 on Bank Holiday Monday to tell me that her friend seems to be in trouble, broken leg, in hospital, on a borrowed phone, needs a top up voucher gives me the number and asks me to sort it out as she is about to start work.
To be fair to my missus, the text reads just like it is actually from her friend, waffle-y emotional, etc
Worse than that, MrsAlias texts her ‘friend’ back giving her my number and saying that i will sort it out.
I call the number, several times, answerphone, about to give up and go to work when i get a text saying “Can you help. X”. I call again, no answer.
When i leave work just after lunch, i get another text, “I need a t-mobile voucher, could you get me £20. X”
I say of course, ask where she is, “you can just text me the code to this number”
I get home, get online, buy a voucher and send the code(dumbass)
“Thank you. Went on OK x”All good, all quiet. Then fifteen minutes later i get two messages simultaneously, the first from the scammer, “I dont believe it, its just taken £15 off for extras, can i be a total pain and could you get me another, Will give you the £40”
ok – now i realise
The other message, from my missus reads “I think it was a wrong number, her husband says she has not broken her leg”
One of the few people i trust without question, has just helped screw me.
AND gave my phone nubmer. See what happens when you work a bank holiday. Worse when the few pennies you earn, you give away to a fluffy bunny.
