+1 Goodfellas.

Not a big fan of the others mentioned. Except tomhoward's suggestion, which, unfortunately I haven't seen.

Goodfellas +1

The film that made me realise Aliens/Star Wars etc weren't that good really.

Deliverance is a classic too. Hard to evaluate 70s films these days.

Yes to the 1st, no the 2nd and 3rd, replace them with Chinatown.

Southern Comfort - awesome - not seen it in ages. Walter Hill made a lot of great movies with some dross later on.

Mad Max 2 - Road Warrior.

Fury Road was almost an amazing counterpart if it wasn't for the reliance on slightly too many visuals, and over-grading.

I find the Departed entertaining but well down the trough for Scorsese proof that the Academy thought he might die soon.

That will be a license to print money.

Kermode actually broke down about how good it was. 5 Stars from him!

I will be going to see it.

I think Terminator is better than T2 as much because it wasn't trying to live up to/ surpass the first.

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest is a great film - it was years after it was released before I saw it (no reason, just didn't see it at the time of release) and was stunned.

A couple of suggestions rather than critiquing the choices of others: Dr Strangelove and Some Like it Hot. Both comedies but at different ends of the humour spectrum.

The Italian Job.

Yeah, definitely The Italian Job. Mos Def is particularly good in that.

I'm on board with Leon.

Ditto Toy Story.

Die Hard?

Spirited Away? Bloody masterpiece.

Surely Hunt For The Wilderpeople ticks all the right boxes to be an STW Favourite?

Tremors. I've yet to meet a person that doesn't like Tremors.

I've never seen Rocky. Nothing against it, just now been around when it's on.

Not keen on Close Encounters, but couldn't say it wasn't really a good film.

But yep, all the above, Matrix excluded. 🙂

I've taken the liberty of listing all the above films I like (some I haven't seen)

Goodfellas.

Back to the future

Tremors

The Martian

The Departed

Jaws

I'll add:

Shawshank ( I think it's good, not great).

The Dark Knight

Fight Club

Forrest Gump

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Gladiator

Alien(s)

Django

And Heat...

We must be able to find one of those we all like?!

Kind Hearts and Coronets.

And definitely not Forest Gump, Gladiator or Aliens for me. Good films though. I just can't get past the story, acting or script. Never connected.

TBH, they're both good, so is the Last Crusade - yep, those 3 great films, I'm glad that's the only ones they made, and lets leave it at that.

“It’s Ok we built another but kept it secret” - I liked this pay off it was very typical of a billionaire's attitude!

You walked out near the end then!

The film is nearly as good as the book. Sagan juggles so many great themes.
