Is my new bike cursed? Anyone have any sage?

Finished building my new gravel bike last night and went for a shake down ride today. Was out less that 30 minutes along the old rail line before disaster struck.

Fast deflating puncture. Found what looked like a horse shoe nail in the tyre. Popped in a Dynaplug and reinflated with a CO2. Didn’t work. Seems the nail managed to go through the rim tape as well. Luckily I had some electrical tape, a spare tube and another CO2 so was back on my way soon enough.

So now need to clean everything up, mushroom patch on the tyre, replace the rim tape and fresh sealant. Then try and find some Dynaplug spares.

Faults per mile, this is a record breaking bike for me.

Do I need to start burning sage in the garage to ward off evil spirits?

Yep, sounds cursed.  I find that some bikes I have just seem to be problematic and whatever maintenance I do seems to go wrong whereas others seem to all go right.  Same person doing the maintenance so only conclusion is that some bikes are indeed cursed.

Send that cursed bike my way to ensure it is ridden disposed of in a suitable ceremony to ensure it doesn’t happen again…..

Some bikes, unfortunately, are more prone to dark spirits and evil.
I suggest, along with a standard tool kit taking a friendly priest or shaman to conduct a trailside cleansing to compliment any standard repairs.
It’s the only sensible solution

You have obviously not shown enough respect. I suggest a long cleaning session followed by keeping the bike in your bedroom.

I once managed to get a screw in the tyre of a newly built downhill bike, just by riding it around my garden.

I’ve no idea how the screw go there but it managed to go through the DH tyre and DH tube somewhere on the loop around the raised beds.

It got nicked in a burglary a month or so later, so hopefully the curse transferred to the thief.

No sage, but done almost the same. New bike, rode over the edge of a smashed roofing slate about 10 minutes from home, got a 5cm slash diagonally across the tyre. Walked home.

3 years later, on the same trail, rode over the edge of a different roofing slate, same net effect (but not a new bike, and i was on my way home).

It’s cursed. Rear hub shell cracked at the weekend.

It wasn’t just a puncture though. It managed to pick up a horseshoe nail, go though the centre tread, the rim tape and out the side just above the bead.

No pics, it’s nowt much to look at and it’s a lot of effort to post pics on STW.

I’ve got a dynaplug tool, but looked at refills recently and they’re ridiculously expensive, so currently lugging a tube about with me…
