Nowt to do with me, and I don’t know how the pay stacks up, but I imagine this has nicer hours and less pressure than quite a few driving jobs:

I’ll just point out that most Scottish government cars are Octavia’s or similar, and not posh versions…
I’ve seen three education or CYP ministers get out the back of Octavia’s, usually with two or three staff squeezed in.
There’s a couple of better cars for FM etc…

not sure about the hours!  For a while there was a minister just a long the street from us.  Car was there pretty early to pick him up (I think it was picking up 0745) and then was often dropping off late (like 2200 most nights).  Not sure if it was the same driver.  Compared to Amazon /EVRI deliveries probably less pressure and certainly a better pension but you will be expected to be on-time, in your suit, and probably be gracious and polite to ministers even if they are odious!   Wouldn’t be surprised if the rules mean you can’t take the car home so having driven the minister around you them need to take can back to base and get yourself home!

I’d imagine that could cause a bit of chafing

    Interesting is one word.
    Under paid are others.
It’s 10k less than a bus driver would be paid at the local operating company. Admittedly, driving a bus isn’t the same thing.

One of my distant* relatives done that exact job many years ago, and most of the drivers were of that old enough to retire, but still had/wanted to work age.

From what I remember, it wasn’t exactly a hard job. Typical chauffeur job. Turn up on time, make sure the car is clean, be presentable, only talk when spoken to, and never hear anything that’s said in the vehicle. And spend a good part of your day sat around doing nothing.

*Husband of my mum’s cousin IIRC. You know, one of those relatives that only those who actually pay attention to the family tree, know the relationship.

I’ve just this evening spoken to the person who would manage that post. Just ask for questions at interview, particularly around funding security.
