I got about £80 of vouchers recently, so going to put towards a new insulated jacket. (will have to be from sportshoes.com)

I am happy to pay up to about £150 total including the vouchers.

The Montane Icarus appears to get very good reviews.

I want it for dog walks, getting in a cold car, walking to the pub etc. For me warmer the better as I dont really like to wear more than a T-shirt !

Currently have an Inov8 insulated jacke. After 5 years all the insulation has moved and its lost most of its warmth.

The Montane Fireball looks quite smart, but I assume its not half as warm as a ‘puffer’ type jacket?

Rab microlight alpine has always be a fave for walkers   its quite warm . I changed mine for this due to weight and wanting it as part of a layering system   which its totally brillaint for  https://www.facewest.co.uk/Rab-Kaon-Jacket-(Winter-21).html     The Kaon    .. one of the best jackets I own ..

Icarus or Icarus light? The light is a bit cheaper but it won’t be very warm.  The Icarus is OK, but I’d rather have Primaloft gold, and a bit heavier.  I don’t know what Sportsshoes have in stock tho’!

Both the wife and I had montane Icarus jackets. They were great until washed and the synthetic insulation clumped together and would not unclump!

Tried multiple times, but unlike down it would not unclump when washed and dried properly.

For comparison, just washed my wife’s rab down jacket. Had to tease out the down in a couple of baffles, but looks and performs as good as new now.

Icarus is good, but you need to be moving to stay warm, it’s not like a down jacket where you can have a bit of a stand around and be warm.

Montane Extreme Jacket is my go to warm jacket. It’s designed like a mountain shirt, so wear it just with a base layer. Needs a shell in wet weather and it has a rubbish detachable hood but for uk winter it works for me.

Yep – Ian Wright has moved the ‘big coat’ goalposts!…
