Agreed. I did enjoy it but left an indelible mark on me.

The last Inside Number 9 episode that did that was the Krampus one.

Who watched the Lee Mack quiz thing last night then? I actually turned it off before the end cos the weird family “Music is banned in our house” were weirding me out too much!
Then woke up at 1am and thought… and went downstairs and watched the end!

    Spoiler for
Watching after realising it was fake, the acting was more obvious, but first time round I was pretty convinced it was real! Duh! Very well done, I thought

I was waiting for that to happen right at the end.
As soon as the mother gave that answer I knew it was coming 😂😂

Don’t normally watch No 9 as I’m quite squeamish but had wandered over while flicking and thought it had been replaced by yet another quiz show. Had cottoned on by the finale.

I wandered past it and stayed for the last five minutes wondering why a quiz show was on at such a weird time. Had no idea what I was watching then the ‘end’ happened and I was utterly confused 😂
Took til the end of the credits for me to figure out who and what I’d watched.
I was quite sleepy in my defence!

I was planning on turning the TV off at about 10.15, when I finished with the Giro. But I was puzzled because there was a crap quiz show on in place of In9, which I was planning on watching tonight maybe, so I watched a bit and realised that it wasn’t actually a quiz show. It was well done but just a bit too fake, and the climax was obvious even after 15 minutes of watching. (The end of last week’s serial killer episode was far too obvious as well.) Some of the details were clever – the blurb on my TV box said nothing about a quiz show, etc.

I’m a little disappointed in them recently.

Very late to the party, but I have just watched Series One, Episode One! I never got around to watching it (despite absolutely loving League of Gentlemen) as my wife can’t stand that sort of comedy (I saw LoG before we were living together).

Anyway, I loved it (Sardines). I am going to binge-watch them all over the coming weeks every lunch break 🙂

Honestly, Inside No. 9 is not “that” sort of comedy.  The only thing the episodes have in common is that they have nothing in common.  There are dark episodes sure, but they run the gamut of comedy and some aren’t comedy at all.  Some are daft, some are poignant, some are… well, just watch it.

@cougar – I know it isn’t the same as League of Gentlemen, but it is 2/3rds of the same writing team and I like their irreverent style.

Oh, sure.  I was meaning in terms of content.  Every episode is standalone (almost?)  It’s not like LoG, there is no “that sort of comedy” here unless wrong-footing the audience is a theme.  One of the episodes in I think the first series is essentially slapstick.  Another, deeply sad.  I thought Sardines was a bit crap personally, it didn’t quite land for me, but that’s OK because there will be another one along shortly.

I would never sit my partner down in front of League of Gentleman, I know she’d hate it.  She’d have nightmares about Papa Lazaru for weeks.  Inside No. 9 on the other hand, I wouldn’t do it blind (at times it’s ‘worse’ than LoG) but carefully curated episodes absolutely.

Try that for the next level

A group of seemingly unrelated strangers all receive a mysterious note stating “I know what you did”, and it sends their lives into a downward spiral. They include a birthing coach nurse who believes her practice doll is a real baby; an alcoholic, one-handed clown; a young man obsessed with serial killers; a telekinetic dwarf; and a miserly old man with the world’s biggest Beanie Baby collection.

Season 9 episode 1 down.  I appreciate that this is not uncommon for Inside No. 9, but I did not see that coming.

I spent the entire episode going “oh, who is that?” over carrier bag man (Harold?) and had to wait for the end credits to discover it was “tonight Matthew, I’m going to be…” Kelly.

I won’t forget the drag queen’s name anytime soon

I nearly choked on my drink (AND NOTHING ELSE)

S9 e1 totally wrongfooted me all the way through.

    Spoiler for

First I thought Agatha Christie pastiche, then maybe Charon’s ferry (but they’ve already done that), next I was leaning into Wandering Jew / Odin territory with Matthew Kelly’s character. Didn’t see ‘government’ sponsored bodysnatchers coming at all.

    Loved it.

Talking of Matthew Kelly’s character, i just realised we didn’t really seem him during/after the end event…he didn’t put the mask on nor looked like he was succumbing and looks like he was still sat there at the end (just a fleeting shot from behind of him still aboard).

I am miles and miles behind, but I have just seen Series 2, Episode 2 (12 Days of Christine with Sheridan Smith and ‘Betty’ from Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em). Never in my life have I got so close to switching a programme off because it was such uncomfortable viewing. So very well written, as always, but a very difficult watch.

Yeah. At times it can be very close to home and unnerving. 12 days of Christine has to be one of the best written pieces of TV there is.

Agreed. A load of people all on top of their game all at the same time. Mesmerising television.

I did a bit of research earlier and it’s the highest rated episode of the lot – it’s not a surprise.
