    Hi,

I am looking to buy some new components from the US, but can’t work out the import duty and tax that I would need to pay.
I have had a look at the customs and exise website but its a minefield!
Does anyone have any info on own experience?
I am looking to bring in a new componebt item for about £300 or so.
    Cheers

i think its about 20% but thats just based on what i seem to get charged

and only on orders over 40 quid and then only about 50% of the time,

thats ordering from jenson to my work address

20% VAT and duty as per rate on the link above, probably 5%.

On components you pay 4.7% duty on the value of goods + shipping costs. You then take that figure and add 20% VAT and then you add some randon amount that the shipping Company adds for ‘handling’ costs.

On £300 , assuming shipping costs of £50, you’d pay about £100 ish

Step 1: Get the seller to mark it as $300 of second hand piano wires, or some such thing.
Step 2: Pay no import duty
    Step 3: Profit
