Very much not bike related but I'm utterly confused after Googling. I have a domain, my email is hosted through Google for GSuite but I want to cancel my webhosting as I just don't use it. My domain registrar is Clook (who are also the hosts). I just end up confused with nameservers, cpanel, redirects, domain parking etc.

The reason that I've not cancelled the hosting to date is that I don't know what will happen and how to make sure that everything (website aside) still works. I simply want to have my domain point to a free service (probably a free blogging platform) and the email to still work. Can anyone help?!

EDIT: and wrong forum too...

The web hosting is a separate service from your domain name registrar. You can safely cancel the hosting part as long as you still own the domain (mydomain.com or similar). The company who holds your domain will give you access to the DNS control panel which allows you to point mail to your mail server to the right part of the net. Why not call support and ask them for help? It’s a service you pay for.
EDIT asked for thread to move to chat.

As Sandwich says, there shouldn't be a problem cancelling just your hosting. Technically your domain name registrar needn't provide DNS (domain name server) services but every registrar I've used does.

There is no problem having mail (likely referred to as 'MX' in your DNS control panel) handled by a different server.

For my domain I have various combinations, e.g. www.blah.com and peter.blah.com go to (different) Google homepages. I also have secret.blah.com, which is dynamically updated to point at my flat (so I can control the central heating :)) and projects.blah.com which goes to whatever free/cheap trial cloud computing account I currently have.
Mail has previously been been through GApps/Suite.

Thanks both. Good call on asking support, I didn't actually think about that!
