Well it stops shifting probably, stops reacting to adjustment like it should or you've smashed it into a rock and its bent!

Dont think ive ever worn a mech out snapped and bent the things but neverworn one out.

I'm another one who always smashes them before they get worn. My last victim was 2 weeks ago. Replaced with a shiney new one who's days are probably numbered! There's a big pointy malevolent rock somewhere already plotting its imminent demise!

Still.... The pile of smashed and bent mechs in the shed mean I'm unlikely to be buying jockey wheels, should this mech make it to old age

I think "thepurist" is the closest so far..dont we all convince ourselves shiney new parts will make us ride faster/better!! Err..star shaped jockey wheels = worn chain not worn mech?

its out of shape and you are running 9 speed on a 10 speed system. still works so no point replacing it until it meets its usual rocky end

Usually when I finish extracting it from a wheel. Though even then I've had a lot of success straightening them.
