It sits under the sink just beneath the tap, and it’s way up there and recessed in so you can’t get a spanner to it. There’s a pipe running through it (for the water, obvs) so you can’t use a socket wrench. So what’s the secret? Isthere some kind of special pumbing spanner?

normally comes in the form of a long plastic ‘socket’ screwdriver with the tap.

you’ve pretty well answered your own question – is there some kind of special spanner for taps – yup. You’ll never guess what it is called…

Yes, you need a set of box spanners.

    They are not expensive.

Depending on the location of the taps you may also need either a long stand or a short weight.
Be sure to ask for one each of these as well. 😉

you may need a hard punch to tap it round, ask for one of them as well 🙂

I’m so strong and I use my hands…

Some jobs you can bodge tools for, fitting taps (or in fact removing them) is not one of them! Tap spanners FTW

[missing out on a great opportunity to get you to buy all sorts of random tools, e.g stubby big headed spanners]

When I did our bath, I found a 32mm deep socket fitted over the protruding pipe just enough.

Sometimes it’s a lot easier to take the sink out, change the taps and put it back.
