More hassle than they are worth. Weekly chemical checks, use plenty of electrons to keep them up to temperature AND after the first month use will never bother without at all.

You will only clean it and switch it on for the “parties”

Some friends have got one – it’s fun occasionally but i can think of much better ways to enjoy £8k !

I’d rather have a sauna and a plunge pool than a hot tub.

Being serious. My kids use ours. I think I have been in it twice. Would never pay for one, but it was installed before we moved in. As someone said, sauna would-be a better bet, especially in UK climate.

Went on a lads holiday once and there was a hot tub.

It was gross…and after a few days of various lads ‘entertaining’ in the hot tub, women could get pregnant just by dipping their toes.

When I’ve been on holiday (civilised holiday McHamish!) and a hot tub has been available it’s something you do tend to use. But if it was at your own home would you? I have a friend who has had one for about 15 years and uses it most days… but I’m still to be convinced… hence the question.

I’ve only been in a hot tub once. With my mum and mother in law. Which was wierd.

We have two (previous owner put them in). They need a massive amount of hot water and take ages to fill so they’re never really that warm. They’re manky because you’re sitting in dirty water (showers are cleaner). They’re never used.

My rellies have an outdoor one in a subtropical environment. They’re always inviting people to use it – no-one ever does.

as above a sauna or steam room would be more use in this country

it’s a hot tub that uses a log-burner whatsit to heat the water. That must get extra niche points?

Had ours for about 6 years now, costs about £8 per week to run, electric and chemicals.
Lovely for sitting in after a ride but it’s not a replacement for a bath like some idiots suggest further up. 🙄

The holiday sperm tank does sound gopping though.

We used ours about 4 times a week when we first got it but now it’s about once a week.
We find it’s quite good to sit and talk bullocks, with a glass of vino, without any distractions/kids.

I think ours cost ~7k installed.
Would I get one in our new house if we moved? HMMMM not sure, probably just move ours to the new house.

The best hot tub is Marthrown in Mabie Forest. An outdoor hot tub right at the bottom of the trails. Ride trails , dump bike, grab cold beer out of the fridge, jump in and take in the view. Marvelous! 😀

Mine would be outdoors and would not be overlooked… but no mountains to look at 🙁

For niche you need this as the woodburner is in the tub.

I’ve been in a wood-fired hot tub on a skiing holiday

It took about 48hrs to get warm and then it was so hot we were shovelling snow in to make it bearable

We recently hired a lodge (2 caravans screwed together and clad in wood) with a hot tub, for 5 nighs.

Day 1 hot tub for a few hours, with beer
Day 2 hot tub, just wife and daughter
Day 3 me and the daughter
Day 4 just the daughter
Day 5 nobody bothered.

Personally I’d recommend you hire a lodge with a hot tub first. I bet you don’t bother buying a hot tub after so a few hundred quid on a little holiday could save you a packet.

Serious question. Is that how it works? Science was never my strong point.

I love hot tubs, but in this country it isn’t practical, especially with the running costs. A few friends have them and they rarely get used, except for a couple of weeks in the summer holidays by the kids.

I would definately go for a Sauna, they are very cheap and amazing! Tempted by the idea of a sauna in the garage. 🙂

As in a spa ? I have a spa on my deck plus a hot/cold outside shower. Ride home, gear off , quick shower, hop into hot tub. Have had one on and off for 10 years. Is used 3-5 times a week in winter and rarely in summer, we turn it off now and empty it. We also use a seaweed based system called spa magic which means no chlorine, chemicals or smell. I hate chemicals like that and this stuff is fantastic, fill spa, warm it up then bang a liter bottle on, about $30 per bottle so maybe two a year. Never had a problem with it. As you say, a first world problem but I love having a nice soak and can’t be gassed filling a bath so the ability to just open the lid and get in it wins it for me.

I’ve got one, fits about 8 adults in it. Was part of the house we moved into and it’s great for after a days riding (after a quick shower to remove mud). Costs between £5-£8 a week to run and i get my use out of it. Got loads of stick of friends when i told them before i moved in, asking if i was making home movies and having swinging parties etc, but once they came round and seen it they were all pretty impressed. Our kids love it too.
