I had my new wheels built around bronze hubs, thinking they would be the nice brown tone in the publicity shots. Unfortunately when they arrived they’re very orangey. I had orange hubs before and unless they were next to each other, you’d swear these were orange too. For those who were hoping for tasteful earth tone builds with the bronze hubs, you’ll want to avoid them. Unfortunately as my wheels were custom built I’m stuck with them.

Also see here, a publicity shot of the bronze TR stem, vs an actual shot on a Cotic Cascade build:

It’s the world’s way of telling you that coloured components are an abomination and are guaranteed to make your bike look awful. Send them back and get the black you should have ordered.

Hope shutterbug clearly quite fond of a Lightroom preset or two!

I would absolutely return them if they weren’t custom wheels 🙃

Still looks smart. Go ride the bike, you’ll forget about it in a week.

If they aren’t as they should be surely that’s grounds for a return even if they are custom?

Unfortunately that would penalise the wheel builder and not Hope, which would feel a bit unfair

I’ve got a bunch on Hope Orange ‘accents’ on one of my bikes (that I like – so there!) and to be honest my orange bits look an awful lot like your bronze bits. But yours are nicer. That’s the colour I’d have chosen if I had a chance – burnt orange maybe. But they don’t look bronze (which I would never have chosen) or like the press photos…..

I’d send Hope one of your photos without telling them what it is and ask them to guess the colour ordered….

To be fair the bronze could have come out more gold like and that would have been cause to throw them in the bin…..unless you have gold taps at home in which case you have my sympathies.

Burgtec also do a Bronze that I think they call Kash Bronze? That does give an indication of the colour they are trying to match. I’d assumed that Hope Bronze would be similar, not the more orangey tone in your photos.

Is there anything you do like @munrobiker?

    Dogs – hate

    Colour – hate

    People enjoying themselves…..

(this is meant to be light hearted banter btw)

The problem with that is Kashima comes in so many colour variations from almost gold to coffee brown depending on the part/year. Interestingly I found that hope Bronze (which is quite orange for sure) is actually a fair match for RF’s Kashmoney, which being owned by Fox you’d think was a good stab at what Fox thinks Kashima colour should be.

@ads678 – currently not my job which is probably why I’ve been a grouch on here. I do really hate dogs though.

Anyway, hubs – the retailer should be able to claim the money back from Hope, since it’s Hope’s problem ultimately.

    Black is the new Bronze.

I’m not a fan of colour on a bike.

Back in the day I put anodised purple on my GT Tequesta, to my ever lasting shame.

That looks more like the orange hubs they did over the bronze!

Had my recent wheels built on silver Pro 5 hubs – felt like I was getting a bit of Hope spangle without being stuck with a colour, especially as they’ll probably end up on different builds in their lifetime.

I was momentarily jealous when I saw the bronze press shots though… right up until I saw unedited photos of the actual almost-orange components.

I very much like dogs for the record, cats too. In fact, all animals really. People I can struggle with.

Agree with the OP. Very much gold/orange than bronze, admittedly in darker light they look more bronze.

That looks 100% the same as my set of hope orange hubs!

Are you sure they have actually sent Bronze and not Orange?

    Definitely bronze supplied.

The wheel builder can’t help as he can’t cover the cost of the rebuild and Hope wouldn’t cover it either.

I’ll have to learn to live with it but Hope really need to address it before more customers make the same mistake.

Nukeproof copper is much closer to the bronze in hope’s pictures. Not that it’s any use to you!

I had the opposite issue with the nukeproof stem as it looked more orangey in their pics but was much darker in reality. Kept it though as I liked it.

Yea, I’d not be happy with that either.  I know it’s the wheelbuilder that should be the first port of call, and even for custom made products you still have consumer rights if they’re not as described (i..e Bronze).  But I’d be calling Hope as it’s clearly their fault. No amount of small print about colors may look different depending on monitor settings, vary between batches or whatever can account for them being that far off. They’ve clearly either adjusted the color in the product photos (which is downright deceitful), or can’t reproduce it consistently enough in production (which is always a small issue, but if parts came out the tank a different color they should have just sold them as 2nds or made up a new name for a limited edition) . I’d be asking for new hub shells in a different color if they can’t supply “bronze”.

and Hope wouldn’t cover it either.

Have you asked them? Their CS is pretty good.

If they have said no, I’d take that as a green light to start posting “real world” photos in the comments under all their social media pics, website reviews, etc.

I have the Burgtec Kash Bronze on my Airdrop it’s definately bronze, your wheel looks orange

Interestingly when brayton had the bronze stuff fitted in one of his videos it looked bronze

Interestingly, the wheel builder (who is very helpful and honest which is why I don’t want to drop this on him) says the first set that came in were as advertised and very nice, but all subsequent sets are like mine.

I think this may indeed indicate they had an issue in production.

Interesting googling what colour is bronze

Ok, here’s a quick comparison of some of my bits. I was going to open up this discussion once my build is complete, but seeing as the OP has brought it up now…

A picture of my seatpost clamp and a key ring (freebie the bike shop gave me). You can see that the seatpost clamp is very orange/gold (even more so in real life) in the direct light, however, on the other side of the key ring in the shadow it’s more bronze.
The other ‘bronze’ bits I have are identical to the clamp (and are identical to the other bronze stuff the bike shop had in stock). Shame everything isn’t the same colour as the key ring, or even a little more brown than that.

@Houns I prefer the shade of the seatpost clamp.

I went with black hubs so that they’d go with any colour frame. A mate went with silver and IMO it doesn’t look as good (on the same bike).

    Hmm,

Interestingly, the wheel builder (who is very helpful and honest which is why I don’t want to drop this on him) says the first set that came in were as advertised and very nice, but all subsequent sets are like mine.

Id be asking why he didn’t say anything when he opened the box, at that point it would have been a simple fix.

Well, yes, but this a forum for bike ponces, you’re a bike ponce, we’re all bike ponces, and Hope are a bike ponce company making kit for bike ponces.

We’ve not seen any variance in colour since batch 1 – this is the same hub taken the same bench 2 different light sources:

    vs.

The point being daylight vs artificial light etc. can make big differences to how this colour looks. Thats not to say its not different to the colour that was used for the protos/photo parts – that I do not know.

Honestly – the colour (on this non calibrated, admittedly) screen is so, so close to my Orange hubs that although im sure as your wheelbuilder has confirmed, it might have said ‘Bronze’ on the box from Hope….

Are we absolutely sure they are not Orange hubs? I’d be asking Hope – they could even have someone in the factory putting them in the wrong boxes..

Why would hope release this bronze colour that’s almost identical to their orange 🧐

I’d love to see bronze/orange together

The bronze and orange are noticeably different.  It’s a crap photo, btw…the Tech3 master cylinder caps are green
