Any thoughts on how to remove a stuck / seized chain ring bolt?

The "sleeve" seems to be stuck to the allen bolt. The allen bolt turns but I cannot hold the "sleeve" in place using my chain bolt tool, it just turns when the allen bolt does.

Drill it out. Shouldn't be too hard. Start small and work towards bigger and hopefully you won't open up the hole in the ring and arm.

I got fed up messing around with stuck bolts so bought one of these - never had a problem since:

Theres a cheaper Shimano version of that tool mudhsark is on about. Again, it's the proper tool for the job rather than trying wedge a dirty great screwdriver in the back of the bolt.

I have the tool on Wiggle, which is fine when you don't apply too much pressure but no good when it gets tough.

Hey, mudshark. What's that useful looking tool of yours, and where can i get one?
(I've got the Wiggle one, but as mdb says it's no good when things get tough.)

This is the one I have but I didn't pay that much - can't remember where I got it from though:

you can try to clamp molegrips on the inner bolt (with an allen key in the outer bolt before fitting the grips) but it is touch and go if it fits depending on the large chainring size. If you can get it right it sometimes lets you crack the inner/outer bolts loose and then the shimano tool will work. I've got the shimano tool and it is poor when the bolts are corroded/tight as you cant get a decent purchase on it.

ebay do cheapy ones, they work best if you dremmel them flat as the heads can be the wrong size, especially for Saint bolts.

Doesn't always work, but put the allen key in a vice, slip the chainring bolt on it and turn the entire unit(chainset and tool) together.
