Help save my winter boots! pic

3 years use and lots of walking on a coast to coast has taking its toil on my boots! what can I use to seal/repair the boots?
Shimano Goretex boots btw and Have managed to round off an allen bolt on my worn cleats how do i get it out bearing in mind the boots are sealed on the inside.

Have you tried the “hammer an old torx key in to the boltholes” trick on the bolts yet?

Failing that, cut the bolts out with a Dremel/Hacksaw. Worked on the last pair of seized bolts I had.

I would use a G-clamp and that contact grip stuff you put in a gun.
I would drill out the head of screw, plate drops off and then mole grips on the stub.

Angle grinder to make a screwdriver slot in the top of the bolt.

Stormsure wetsuit glue to repair the boot. That’s the glue that sets in a big blob in 24 hours, not the contact adhesive type. Also seals snakebite holes in tubeless tyres, so worth the £7.

Cobbler and see what magic they can work..

I cab see the point in drilling it out but will that not **** up the plate which is sealed inside the boot?

The plate has 2 sets of cleat holes. You might end up with the cleat 3mm away from the ideal position though.

Anyway, my method works. Also puts a drainage channel in the sole if you’re a bit cack-handed with the grinder. Apparently.

Maybe a small dremell to make the slot would be better eh BJ?

In the past I’ve drilled the head off the countersunk screw head and used pliers on the remainder of the screw – when the cleat is off of course. It works quite well if you can do it properly. If not, hammer a torq bit in to the hex and get it out that way.

its a countersunk bolt, just drill it out,
the friction is probably between the bolt and adjustment plate,
last time i had to drill one out, i removed the remainder of the bolt with a small pair of pliers.
no damage to the backing plate at all.
you may be surprised what a cobbler can do with these, a dying trade, but not without value, imho.

I’ve used araldite to fix shoes before, especially when the sole starts peeling away from the toe.

Shoe Goo is the stuff Rich, I’ve stuck a complete sole from my Sidi dragons back on with that stuff, amazing!!

2nd for Shoe Goo it can be used to repair anything, shoes, trainers, stereo buttons, Garmin Edge 305 mounts when that pesky litle clip snaps etc..

It’s a bit drastic – but I’ve tack welded 😕 an old allen key to a very stuck bolt.

Then removed and cut off weld/bolt – the heat helps too I guess 😛

shoo goo is the way forward. or storm sure if you live near a chandlers.

use your araldite (or liquid metal is better) to glue an old allen key in the hole, once its cured, undo. ta da.
