I need help choosing a new frame for my 9 year old boy. I posted the other week thinking about getting him a Kona Stuff 2010, when I went to purchase it they had sold out. So looked around and found a Kona Muni Mula 2002, and was thinking about getting him this.

However now I have found a Kona Stuff 2010 and a Kona Shred 2009 in stock so I’m now confused.

Most of his riding is Ashton Court and Mendips, he would prefer to get into downhill type riding and not do long trail rides…… I’m trying to working on that.

So does anyone have any experience of these frames? What advice can you give?

Weight is the killer, for all of us, nevermind a 9 year old.

He doesn’t need a ‘strengthen’ frame (have you tried picking up a Stuff?), just as light a weight one as is possible.

I nearly bought one of these:

But used an aluminium DJ instead – but again under 4lbs.

Anyone know the weight of a Stuff / Shred frame? He currently has a Shred 20 and that is pretty weighty. Maybe why he doesn’t like riding uphill. One of the reasons for looking at the Mula.
