Having seen this in the flesh I can confirm it looks like it Temu sold you a Polestar.

Bogey and Doyle would be turning in their graves.

i can forgive the mustang Mach e , in fact I like it, but this , well it’s not even meh . Just wrong

Kinda feels like they’ve done a bad job on purpose to get people talking about it!

Re. the Mach E, I guess they’ll be sacking that off as it looks too similar to this to have both available?

Different models for different markets? I assume the Capri name means nothing in North America.

Couldn’t care less about the name, but I find it bizarre how similar it is to the Polestar 2. Did nobody in Ford’s design department at any point go “hang on a minute, maybe we shouldn’t completely rip off another brand’s design…”

Garbage isn’t it. If it had any other name you’d totally ignore it but call it a Capri and get all the clicks. Just like they did with the e-Mustang. Pure rage-bait for petrolheads.

My last Capri had a Cosworth V6, Cosworth brakes, gearbox, Bilstein suspension, everything. It was fun but crap. Glad to leave it in the past.

I assume the Capri names means nothing in North America.

The mk1 Capri was sold as the Mercury Capri in the States which shows you what Ford USA thought of the wheezy little pinto.

Given Ford/VW tie ups these days. Looks crap when you compare it to say the new MG leccy sports car

It’s got four doors.  Surely that’s makes it a Cortina?

Missed the chance to call it a Capr-e.
Other than rectangular headlights, I see no link to the original capri, and if you ignore the badge, pretty little Ford design language. Another poor heritage grab.

Ford have history of having 17 very slightly different versions of something. Can only assume they will all be targeted at a very specific price/monthly cost point.

I don’t get people who get wound up about re-use of the name. Its really difficult to come up with a name for a vehicle thats an actual word rather than a string of numbers and letters; that isnt already used, and isn’t a eupahmism in Uzbekistan. Think I heard recently that Focus bikes gets 20 euros off Ford for every Focus hatchback they sell.

Wish someone would actually make a 2 door moderately sporty but still practical electric coupe though.

I know the traffic on this forum is sometimes like a road at the far end of Mull in December is that why revs started the thread twice ?

Nothing wrong with the car that I can see, but baffling to recycle the name.

Ok so it’s got 4 doors if you look closely but there’s the Audi e-Tron GT.

    Fixed it for you…

Honestly, I’d take the Polestar every time. I like the Puma, I had one of the original 1.7 Zetec Pumas, it was terrific fun to drive, but fuel consumption was woeful! Plus you had to really keep an eye on oil levels, and use very expensive oil, due to the Nicasil bore linings in the Yamaha engine. The new Puma ST is a nice car to drive, but a bit too big for my needs; I can only imagine that Ford are planning on dropping the Puma from their range and the Crap-e is it’s replacement.

The shape of the side windows/rear quarter is styled on the old Capri. Looks ok, seen worse, seen better, couldn’t gaf about the name.

WTF! There are some very nice roads at the far ends of Mull and thankfully not cluttered up with some derivative junk from Halewood, I’ll let you know ? I guess it’s aimed at the same market as the local who drives a bright yellow Mustang-E, a 70 year-old woman with blue hair!

Possibly but I believe that’s based on Ford’s platform,  seems strange to bother developing that and also be buying in the VW one.

It (kinda) has the ‘Ford badge’  oval shape in the side windows like the original, but yeah. Looks crap.

Well it doesn’t really matter, of course, but the name carries fond memories for a lot people, and putting it on an ugly, lardy, family four door on stilts feels like it taints it somehow.

I see that now – fair point – and certainly agree on the mismatch of a low two door coupe to a tall four door with minimal overhang. Compare and contrast with Renault’s new 5.

Yep, the original was a sporty 2 door coupe for the family, or more a 2 door coupe that started many a family 🙂

Cortina would probably be more appropriate for the new er beast.

But it was fine on an ugly, rust riddled shitbox?

I caught Quentin Wilson and a member of the Ford Capri Owners Club /Dawyne Dibley on BBC breakfast this morning, they were not impressed

My take: It looks slightly less ugly than most small SUVs

Yes, especially one with some ill fitting oversize wheels and tyres that rub the arches and fill the car with smoke

I think it looks fine, to be honest a lot of old folks getting upset becasue its not the slinky thing of their youth are probably also the human version of ” an ugly, lardy, family four door on stilts”  these days?

Well, obviously Tazzy, but also the use of the name is click bait.

It’s closer to a Matra Rancho than a Ford Capri

I saw one of those, on the road, only a few weeks ago for the first time in about 30 years. To be fair, it actually sounded pretty good in the grand scheme of things. And looked well kept.

I still have not recovered from the re-imagined ford Puma. It’s gone from  souped up fiesta chasis with a coupe body… to…’trendy’ SUV?

I could be mistaken but I was under the impression the Mustang Mach E was made to halve the emissions of the “Mustang” model range, thus allowing the sale of the V8 in Europe. Also helps that it’s a pretty good car in its own right.

So with this Polestar wannabe is there potentially a “warm” Capri coming in the near future?
