For some reason, the missus wants a new tent because our good quality one (though small) is small. She has her heart set on this:

despite the fact we both have good quality sleeping bags and air matresses already. Anyone got any (preferably bad) experience of the tents?
Thanks
Can't comment on the Halfords ones, but happened to notice Tesco had all theirs half price in the shop yesterday. Range of sizes, we have one of their three man dome style ones and it's fine.
Should be fine until
a) it rains
and b) it gets cold
Well the hydrostatic head is only 1500mm which is very poor.It may not stay dry in a prolonged downpour .Better tents are rated at 3000mm + and can be bought for less money try go outdoors http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/
I've got a Outwell Hartford XXL for sale in great condition hardly used.
It's bloomin' massive and your misses will love it looking for £250 for it, can email pics if needed.
3000mm hydrostatic head so will keep out the worst rain mother earth can throw at you.
1500mm is terrible! that amount of pressure can be created with [s]high[/s] winds and rain!
I reckon a late night disorientated quick pee by the tent would leak through that!
My brothers doing a geological survay somewhere in north wales in the £60 TESCO tent.
Things to note:
#its huge (its the size of 2x 3man dome tents with an even bigger area in the center)
#its really very big
#it survived 50mph wind and torrential rain
#it fell to bits 24 hours later when the wind picked up!
Basicly, it's fine unless you envisage camping ontop of a Welsh mountain in weather that 99.9% of the population would have checked into a B&B for. He's gone into the gelert outlet and bought himelf something smaller and 3x the price incase the weather turns nasty again. I think I'll get one as TBH theres no way I'd be up there in that weather!
So he was in a Tesco tent but its now heading towards the river Dee, the Isle of Man, or Ireland?
Would you go to Halfords to buy a bike? Well then why the hell would you buy a tent from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

They sell Konas. For the right price I'd happily buy one from them, so why not a tent. You're not asking for service back-up.

Because they cost something like £3? for the small ones. I've got one for summer festivals, and my lad borrows it to throw up in mates gardens for sleep overs.
Perfect

I was doing a geological survey not far away but I had a cottage, got 4 weeks camping it next year though but thankfully I own a decent tent 😉
Have a look at the vango range of tents matey, not too much money but a million times better quality.
Lol, yup, apparenlty the 50pmh wind pretty much flattened it (they still slept well enough and kept dry, the 60mph(plus gusts) began snapping poles so they bagged it up and headed for a barn.
Going to the halfords bike analogy probably isn't quite fair. But a friend bought a woolworth BSO, its still working 2 years later, it would probably die if I took it to Whistler, just like the tent would collapse halfway up K2, but I'm only going to use the tent in the UK in the summer, which is all the use the bike gets too!

So your son borrows a 3 quid tent to be sick in or did i read that all wrong ? 😆
As said above 1500mm not enough, we found out the hard way with our old tent earlier in the year. Had a lovely little stream running right through the middle area! Now invested in proper mans tent and it laughs at the rain!!
Would you go to Halfords to buy a bike?
Yes. I got a Boardman Team from them and I'm pretty damn pleased with it.
At £90 for that lot, I'd be amazed if any of it is any cop. As others have said, the hydrostatic head figure is poor.
Decathlon and Go Outdoors are the places you want to go to for cheap and good tents. The Decathlon tents tend to have doors that can be guyed out, giving a bit of shade / shelter to cook.
Well the hydrostatic head is only 1500mm which is very poor.It may not stay dry in a prolonged downpour
1500mm isn't worth it. We had a 2000mm tent wet out after a few hours rain and the second night we had drips coming into the sleeping compartment. Forget anything that's not 3000mm +. Seriously, don't bother.
Outwell make the best leisure tents by a country mile. Not cheap, but worth every penny. 🙂
We got an Oswald Bailey own brand 6-man tent a few years back for about the same price - not sure if they still do them. It's been on numerous trips and just last week survived three nights camping near Coed-y-Brenin, which largely consisted of getting battered by near gale force winds and torrential rain as soon as the sun went down.
£89 for a vis-a-vis tent with sleeping bags, airbeds etc? It has to be the cheapest stuff going. Might be ok for the odd weekend, but longterm, forget it.
This looks a bit better £99 Vis-a-Vis 4 man tent from Halfords
To be honest, i'd look at Vango, Coleman or Outwell brands. Go Outdoors show a lot of tents, but they aren't the cheapest. Millets aren't bad and Cotswold Outdoors have good online pages.
You need a tent exhibition really. Why not see if there is one local to you.
I don't think i'd buy anything other than a 2 man festival tent from Halfords.
go to go outdoors.
i bought a vango beta 350 (not as big granted) for £50.
there a lots of good quality and big tents for under a ton.
Lots of replies, but no-one who has actually owned one? Its from Halfords, so it must be shite? Should be fine until a) it rains and b) it gets cold
[s]Well, I think you'll find thats bullshit! I've got the very thing in the OPs post and its fine.
The sleeping bags are now the dog's bed, the lamps eat batteries in a few minutes, but the tent is, well, a tent.
Easy to put up, spacious, WATERPROOF and was about the only thing standing on last year's Polaris when a storm hit. We still had somewhere to change out of our wet clothes whilst the rest of the site looked like it had been hit by a Tsunami... Bought it cos it was cheap and knowing a tent would be something not getting much use, but we've used it quite a few times now and its been borrowed by family.[/s]
😳
Just clicked the link and they've changed the tent! 😆
