Having watched it again recently I reckon Unforgiven is as good as westerns get.

Spoiler if you’ve never seen it.

There are a few great Westerns. ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales’ and ‘The Unforgiven’ are my favourites.

    Outlaw Josey Wales +1

Late in the genre, though. Greatest ever would have to be one of the earlier classics like The Searchers, or The Man who shot Liberty Valance.

I watched this so many times as a child (Dad’s favourite film) but probably best is Butch and Sundance.

Jeremiah Johnson – Some say he’s up there still.

All westerns are great, my Grandad said so and I believe him. He looked a bit like John Wayne but did not inform on his friends to the FBI.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly purely for Eli Wallach’s performance.

Garry L is correct – its The Searchers

And the runner-up is ……. Unforgiven.

The winner, of course, being the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Tuco character is one of the best in any film in my opinion.

You’re all missing the most important part of the OP which is,

have just bought red dead redemption for 360.

I’m pretty certain that when the 360 / PS3 market finally dries up, RDR will be my top game of this generation. I envy you, sir, if you’re coming to it for the first time.

    Silverado.

It’s got everything. The gun fight, the widder woman, the stampede, injuns, the boy and his dog, gold mines, and sexy space vampires.

I’m not too sure about the last bit, because that may have happened in the nice restful sleep I had watching Silverado.

    Otherwise, anything with Clint Eastwood.

I bought a PS3 recently (just to play GTAV) but RDR was a favourite on PS2. So Redemption is a must for PS3?

Westerns: Once Upon a Time, some the oldies like High Noon, Red River. Star Wars…

As above, Unforgiven, most Clint E. westerns , The man who shot Liberty Valence and one nobody has mentioned: High Noon

one nobody has mentioned: High Noon

think you missed it in the cross post… saw it for the first time a few weeks ago and was gripped throughout. Also, what’s the one where the Sheriff gets married and leaves town, but ends up going back to fight off some baddies he has history with. And the townsfolk don’t help him out.

Can’t say unforgiven really does it for me

Searchers, true grit, bad day at black Rock is a great one too

Id like to add No Country For Old Men

Redemption is in a different league to Revolver. If you like GTA, it’s basically Grand Theft Horsey.

Get the Game of the Year edition, it comes with all the DLC.

    Best £17 you’ll spend on a console.
