Today looks like it may be interesting! MvdP attacking already.

5 categorised climbs, 3 just as hard but unclassified, roasting hot…..and already averaging around 45kph just on the flattish prelude!!

Bah! Dumoulin out. That’s me down 3. I’d high hopes for a stage win from him once the GC slipped.

Christ that climb looks steep. I think one of the camera bikes has just burnt his clutch out or something, stalled solid on the climb.

This is fascinating. Just when you think someone has been blown off they are back.

It’s always roasting in Bury! Great stage that. I love the big mountains but these short sharp efforts really sort things out.

That was a fab stage, made all the better by my daughter calling me to tell me to make sure I was watching because it was fab.  Love it when you have the top players slugging it out

at one point, Cav was in the breakaway

    CAV. in the BREAK.

    Madness

he’s drifted back now, but the break is a strong one, it’s likely to be a win from the breakaway

Well done Hugh for smacking that idiot fan. Hugh had been shouting at the fan without any response.
It’s hard enough trying to climb up something that steep, without a pedestrian, running alongside, blocking and filming the race.

I’ve Almeida in my dream team and have loved watching him plug away to keep in contention, great effort.

Hindley looks ever so slightly the strongest climber to me at the moment. But blimey, there’s barely a silver rizla between them.

My dream team seems to be descending much like Niballi! Hopefully some fireworks tomorrow.

    tweet didn’t load,

Carapaz, Hindley and Landa did their best or at least top 3 best climbing performances of their career, pushing huge watts 6.20 w/kg for 36 minutes on Santa Cristina after they had done 14.63 kj/kg/h (mega fatigue) for 5 hours and 20 minutes before the climb.

nibali would have won that if his bars were not 6 miles wide #danbigham

The scenery is fab. We’ve been skiing in Aprica, Passo Tonale and Folgarida. Lovely to see these areas in the spring.

Looks to be a good breakaway group.

Bugger, Yates abandons. He’s been towards / off the back all day

    The scenery is fab.

Robbie McEwen and Dan Lloyd are a great commentary double act.

    The scenery is fab.

Italy does do good scenery. Looking forward to the Dolomites in a couple of days, that’ll be spectacular.

Some lovely descents… that last one would be epic on my Supermoto. !

I didn’t know that about Sonny Colbrelli either !!!! That was a shock…. and a shame.

Went for Yates and Almeida, typical

Now only a successful Nibali do or die can save my team

I too went for Yates and Almeida.
After being in the top 3 for days and days I’m now plummeting without them.

the gc race is kinda like 3 super domestiques duking it out, none of them quite have the knock out blow to floor the others. and Richie Porte is out the back with 100km to go.

he’s stepped off with gastro enteritis! tough riding ejecting liquid from both ends !!

It got a bit dusty in here when Richie stepped off.
At the age of 37, its his last Grand tour.

Shame that there’s really bugger all else happening here. Nice scenery but the riders are basically playing a waiting game, there’s no big GC battle.

agreed – they’d better do some racing soon (some domestiques – and Nibali – seem to be popping which might help)

scenery is magical – we skied at Arabba one year and it is amazing round there
