So I bought a FieyuTech WG2 recently that died a horrible death on its second outing as did it’s replacement. Bad reviews on the net show I’m not the only one to feel disappointed with this model. So I’m on the hunt for a replacement. I have a shortlist of the Evo SS mainly because I like the chest mount position, and the GoPro karma grip with extension. But I really would like to hear other suggestions.

We have an Osmo Pro. Getting really handy with it.

    No issues.

<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>A friend had zhiyun crane. That worked well too.</span>

Not so keen on the Ronins with lighter cameras.

Hey rone, how do you mount yours? It looks a bit long to be chest mounted.

I’m not sure the Osmo is designed to be chest mounted. I do have a bike mount though.

I’ve had no issue with my feiyu tech wgs. You’re not using a black GoPro 5 or 6 are you rather than a session.

What happened that it died. I’ve seen bad and good reviews from it. Most of the bad reviews are to do with tracking whengoing round berms and jumping. That seems to have gone with new firmware.

Hey Poah, yep i have been using a hero 5 which i have no doubt is the main cause of the problems but FieyuTech state in the manual and there website that the gimbal is for use with the hero 5 and 6. Now obviously its not i know why which is why i am on the search again. I think i read on a review of the Evo SS that the 5 is 30g heavier than the session which doesn’t sound much but it can really affect the balance and the motors of the gimbal. They recommend using a 14g weight to counterbalance one of the swingarms.

My dilemma was to either persevere with the WG2 or buy a session which considering i had a hero5 in the cupboard seemed a bit daft. I’m going to try the karma grip with the extension i think.

    Does this count*?

3D printed the plastic gimbal bit and used a water bottle as ballast. Initial tests show it works okay hand held when walking about. Cost of about £5 means I don’t really expect it to outperform the pro units but for go-pro and camera phones it is fine. PM me if you want a plastic gimbal printing.

I have a Feiyutech WG2 and keep finding myself not using it for fear of breaking it.

I’ve noticed I tend to tweak my bars in directly where it would sit when pulling tables etc.

Maybe I just need to get on with it and hope it rolls with the punches.

I managed to have a go with both the Osmo and Karma Grip at work. It may sound silly, but the Karma feels like it’s ‘built like a GoPro’ i.e. reasonably robust, whereas the Osmo had all the little vents, fans and things. Karma quieter too. <span style=”font-size: 12.8px;”>The ability to reposition the camera on the Karma by grabbing it rather than fiddling with the Osmo Joystick was nice too, in fact, the whole thing seems more glove/cold hands friendly.</span>

    Haven’t tried the extension.

As far as stabilisation goes they both do the job (as far as I pushed them, anyway) but the Osmo seems to have a stronger lock vs the Karma following your movements more ‘naturally’. Subjective, I know, but that’s about all I can offer.

Osmo is very durable – but not an action cam.

We’ve got focus wheel on ours and with crystal monitor. Makes a good rig.

I have a Zhiyun tech smooth Q which i have found to be very good. I made a plastic holder so i could mount my action camera and i was really impressed with the results. The phone app for the gimbal keeps on improving also.

the evo SS has issues with the five/six black too.  It is basically too heavy.  The karma gimbal seems to be the only one that works well enough with the black 5/6 cameras
