Not wanting to hijack the rider down thread so I started a new one.

I had never heard of ghost bikes until I read that thread which I felt quite saddened by. The fact is if I had seen a ghost bike I would not have known what it was. Maybe there are things we can do and surely we should be able to think of things here.

How are the UK cycling bodies really helping us as cyclists?

Can we start putting out ghost bikes, with local authority blessing and have them recognised by drivers? Note that Hackney Council asked a family to remove one in memory of their daughter after a single complaint. Perhaps if there was a larger awareness of their meaning they would be more acceptable?

What about a memorial day ride or several nationally, not politically motivated or targeted but simply to remember downed riders? Several across the country simultaneously, once a year every year changing the locations, not blocking roads, no agenda just cyclist unity and remembering tragic accidents.
