Just sent an Instinct 2 back ‘cos I could barely read it and am now looking for something to replace my vivoactive 4 . With the members discount on Garmin and the H Samuel offer the Epix and Fenix are about the same – anyone ale to recommend one over the other? TBH I think both are way better than I need but I am tempted with something a bit chunkier than my vivoactive – probably only worn on the bike, walking in the hills and in the gym

There’s a few threads on here comparing them when they were on offer early this year. From memory they’re about the same, choice is between fancier screen or longer battery life.

I have the Epix 2. More functions than I need, but I like it a lot. I also bought a few different coloured straps cheap from an online retailer to match the various face-colour themes! Cos I’m a bit of a tart ?

I have a Fenix 6, upgraded from a vivoactive 3 a year and a bit ago. Sometimes I think it would be nicer to have a brighter more vibrant screen, but happy with the increased battery life compared to the Epix.

I wear mine all the time. If you only use it for activities rather than wearing an the time you will miss out on some of the health/lifestyle tracking the watch does.

The screen on the Epix is great, very clear in all light conditions, and it’s not as if the battery is poor. Euro topo maps are free for Epix not sure about other models. As above more functions than I need but love mine.

I’ve got what is effectively an Epix 2, moved from a Fenix 5. I’d go with the Epix.

Fitness for me has taken a bit of a dent due to knackered back and knee so I’m currenlty using it as a smart watch more than anything but I’m getting 15/16 days from a charge at the moment. Down from ~20 days on the Fenix 5 for the same usage but it’s hardly a chore to charge it up and the difference in screen quality hugely outweighs having to charge it every 2 weeks instead of every 3.

If you rejected your last watch on screen visibility I’d say Epix. Although I’m charging twice a week. Quite a lot of gps and i have the display always on with an analogue face

IMG_1660Hmm do you really want to know how inactive I’ve been today? The crack is just the screen protector

I picked up an Epix from H Samuel using discounted vouchers from our works reward portal.

The 16 days battery life is accurate and I’ve only charged it once after the initial unboxing (about two weeks ago) as you need to be on charge to download the maps.

The speed at which it wakes means I see no need to have it on all the time.

Initially I didn’t want a big watch but middle aged eyes forced the issue. However the epix is much lighter than my smaller steel watches so I don’t notice it’s on my wrist.

Haven’t tried a Fenix but I don’t regret buying the Epix.

Epix 2 for bike use, got it in a recent discount PSA, Apple Watch 9 rest of the time. I also sold my Instinct as struggling to read it, even with varifocals.

Are the Epix users on here using the base model and any issues with GPS? I was just reading some reviews and the much pricier Pro model has dual-band GPS which folks are saying is a big improvement in forests etc.

Also did anyone manage to stack discounts on the H.Samuel offer?

Yes, but only £25, so £325 for the Epix (Gen 2) Standard Edition, 47 mm

    Interesting:

You can still get the Epix 2 from H Samuel for £324.99 but I noticed browsing the Garmin site they have the Venu 2s for £199.99 which is like a mini Epix – still has AMOLED and a lot of the same functions. I’ve bought one for my daughters upcoming birthday as she liked the Epix but just too big for her. I was looking at Lily 2 Active their smallest smart watch, but despite being an older model the Venu 2s is a better device by every measure and only slightly bigger.
