Fury Usyk

Big fight this weekend. Predictions?

im going for fury winning via mid round stoppage to the body, whilst behind on points

I think Fury on points, although I’d love to see Usyk win.

Would love see Usyk take it.

Depends largely on which version of Fury turns up. He looked truly awful against Nganou (seemingly not having taken him even remotely seriously). However, we’ve seen great performances from him immediately following lackluster ones in the past.

Just glad it’s happening before the fight’s completely past its sell-by date. Potentially, this is 2 generational greats fighting for all the baubles.

Prediction: Fury by corruption.

If it goes to points I’m currently feeling Usyk can pull this off.  Fury is known to be a great boxer for a heavy weight of  his size but Usyk is an even better boxer and gives the impression of being just as cunning as Fury.

Questions have been raised about Usyk’s body but if that is a reality Fury’s big height advantage might work against him getting in low to the body.

Without being known as really big puncher and with no real questions over Usyks chin Tyson might resort to using his weight to lean on Usyk to wear him down for a TKO so hopefully this won’t become a 12 round cuddling match or a questionable draw.

After Tyson bouncing of the canvas following some big one shot knock downs Im not sure there will be a knock out from Usyk but he definitely  has the ability to wear you down knock someone out over 12 rounds.

If they were both the same size I would say Usyk has the boxing edge over Tyson in all areas.

A quick edit to add, I don’t dislike Tyson nowadays and can’t disagree that he has certainly done really well for himself and his family but I think the boxing reputation he trades on has been done without facing anyone really decent.  If you look at the trouble Wilder gave him and his own subsequent loses to good but not top tier fighters the only really good fighter on Tyson’s record worth boasting about is a convincing win over  Klitschko. Klitschko was a great fighter but a much better and game version of him turned up following that loss to Fury to take on Anthony Joshua who’s win over him looked even more impressive to me.

Speaking as someone who cried with joy and amazement when Lloyd Honeyghan beat Don Curry, I should care, but I’ve just gone completely off boxing since almost everything is PPV. That and the hour long ring walks, I just can’t be arsed with it anymore. There are some great fights still going on but this won’t be one of them. I’ll probably pick it up on stream the next day, but if Fury wins, meh. If Usyk wins… slightly less meh.

it’s the biggest bout in the heavyweight division for 25 odd years, between 2 undefeated fighters know for their boxing ability. For all the belts.

it should be brilliant, as long as fury tries to box rather than just lean on usyk for 12 rounds and rabbit punch him to the back of the head, which I suspect he may do.

Being the biggest heavyweight bout in 25 years is a fairly low bar in my opinion.

Love my boxing, but heavyweight division has been lacklustre in decades. Fury is a very good boxer and deserves a lot of praise for his skills. He has fought most of the best fighters around so no complaints on that front.

I can’t see him winning though. I see it as a changing of the guard. For me, Usyk with a late knockdown.

Fury is looking very lean for this fight – I assume so he has a bit more speed and agility (which he will need). But I think that, for the fact he’s been floored by one of the hardest punchers around and still got back up (ie, Wilder), Usyk will need to do something special to beat him – he’s definitely got the skills to do it, but Fury has the ringcraft to know how to adapt and he knows he can stand back up and find his bearings quickly if he is caught.

I really don’t know how to call it, but I am a fan of Fury after what he did over those three fights against Wilder so I am in his corner.

Thinking about this purely as personalities rather than sportsmen; whilst Fury has done and said stuff in recent years that have made up for some of his views he has vocalised in the past for me he is still in negative equity. Boxers often come from a more ‘agricultural’ background and don’t have to be nice people or have refined views but in terms of who’s story to I most want to see have a happy chapter, it’s Usyk.

Heart Usyk, head Fury.

Usyk probably needs a KO as Fury will likely get any decision.  As the bean counters will want to make some money from a Fury  – Joshua fight whereas Usyk – Joshua 3 isn’t box office.

I think Usyk will win by knockout somewhere around the 8th round. Whilst Fury’s size and ring craft is solid I’m not sure he’s faced someone so skilled. And he has a punch.

I could see Usyk winning by a knockout from a liver shot, no much point going head hunting Fury with the size difference, but if he works the body I don’t think that is something Fury will have faced before from any where near as skilled a fighter as Usyk.

Fury struggles a bit with smaller fighters and south paws, Usyk is both. Plus a fantastic boxer, although should have lost to Dubois, as it was a legitimate body shot.

• I think the Fury that beat Klitschko beats Usyk on points.
• But. I think a Fury that beat up Wilder gets beat on points.
• And a Fury that beat (barely) Ngannou gets knocked out by Usyk.

I don’t think it’ll be a slug fest, more a very tactical battle. It’d be great to see one of them being quite a few points down going into the championship rounds needing a knockout. Might see some fireworks then.

now I’ll caveat this by saying I’m dead against Saudi and the money its throwing into sports (liv,boxing, football) is ridiculous. Likewise giving them the World Cup..

but doesn’t it all just shine a spotlight on the country, and it’s horrific human rights records even more? Every time any event ever occurs there the abuses are highlighted in the mainstream media, more so than they usually would be.

anyway, back to boxing. The undercard I really want to see is Tony bellow or Carl Froch putting that absolute clown show of a father John ‘the fighting man’ fury to sleep within 20 seconds.

It’s intriguing. Each fighter is the best the other has faced. I was a big Fury critic in his earlier days but he’s grown on me after the Wlad fight. He has a skillset that belies his size. He simply shouldn’t be able to move the way he does but he can and it’s very impressive.

Usyk I’ve loved since the first time I watched him. Utterly joyous to watch. The KO of Bellew lives long in the memory. I do wonder if this will be his David Haye moment. A fantastic cruiserweight that wasn’t really a heavyweight and fell short against Wlad. I can’t see him having the power to KO fury given his rise from the dead against Wilder, who despite being a pretty bad boxer, is an absolute monster puncher.

That was bizarre. No sense of urgency from Fury. It looked at one point that he could have taken Usyk out when he chose but kept toying and pot shotting. After the knockdown it was as though he just wanted to see the final bell

100% agree – huge admiration for the struggles he’s been through and how he’s spoken about them. But jesus, stop being such a cock – had much more respect for him after Usyk burst his nose and the showboating stopped.

Not a clue, I didn’t have fury ahead at any point.

Seemed like the right result to me.

I don’t get how that was a split decision at all, but the bbc report this morning seems to make out it was far far closer than I remember…

I had usyk winning by a canter at the end..

It was like watching Homer Simpson box.
