Just looking at the Fuggly Cars thread, and it reminded me that there are some cars that are, in fact, ugly, but still at the same time, achingly beautiful.
Or ones that you think ‘Ohh that’s nasty’ but you still NEED one, WANT one for some bizzare reason….

    You know what I mean?

    Anyway, my top 2:

Top of my dream car list always has been the Alfa SZ. Pig ugly really, but also jaw droppingly beautiful at the same time. The first time I saw one I nearly crashed whilst gazing at it!

Fiat 131 Supermirafiori. 99.999% are now rusty brown spots in scrapyards at best. Boxy. Cheap. But they were rare when new, THAT engine is an absolute peach of raspy rorty fun… And somehow to me they just look ‘right’. The wheels, the lights, the stance….. the rear wheel drive….. I’ve been very, VERY close to buying one in the past, and I think now it’s too late 🙁

    Over to you….
    🙂

I was just thinking about posting the Afla SZ to the other Fugly thread. It’s one of those cars you just can’t decide whether it’s a great looker or not. The Citroen SM is the same for me.

One guy I used to road race against had a SZ. It had amazingly badly fitted panels when you got up close, but I still want one too.

    Too many to list:

    Any Skoda coupe.

I also love the shape of these, but don’t tell anyone, ok?

    Anything by Tatra:

No the SZ is just ugly.

Aston Martin V8’s? Kinda like a Yank muscle car, blue collar supercars and all that. But it’s British and luxurary.

My uncle Eric (RIP) had a Supermirafiori – and it was ace. I think it fell to bits in the style of a clown car though.

That 2.0litre TC engine sounded the bollocks.

It does. It dominated any car it was put into, and it’s genes gave birth to the Delta Integrale engine. To my ear it’s the finest sounding inline 4 cylinder engine ever built. Especially when they added a supercharger in the Fiat and Lancia VolumeX models.

I don’t think I need to contribute to any car threads ever again on here – Rusty Spanner just says exactly what I’d say every time.

Obviously the RZ / SZ deserve a place here. Nice spot on the Tatra too, quite a unique piece of engineering.

    My favorite though is this:

That Citroen SM is lovely, I have a matchbox one somewhere in bright bronze.

The SM is beautiful – except from directly behind when it looks ungainly.

The CX I think is called a Loadruuner and they were used to distribute newspapers. Looks like that one could do with some TLC!

I can’t get my head around this. This thread still has some lovely cars and some pig ugly ones. I can’t see beauty in ugly. 🙁

Even Alfa said the SZ (Il mostro) was ugly. And it is. But also rather wonderful.

and I’m tempted to get one of these:
