This a Sunday league match between 2 pub sides who were both out on the lash last night

Unfortunate..shame, Scotland had some decent chances.

Shame you have to wait 90 minutes until they start playing an attacking game.

Turned on the game for a look while waiting for my toast.

I’m so very grateful not to be a footy fan🤣 Following Scotland is too heartbreaking.

Gutted for Scotland, a sad but fair result.

Ouch – that is harsh for Scotland

Glorious failure yet again. FFS. What’s the bet, to rub salt in our wounds, that 2pts would of got us through!

Let’s not beat around the bush, Scotland were awful for pretty much every minute of those 3 games. Why the hell didnt shankland come on earlier, Adams was utterly useless

tbh at least that goal saved the sfa a hotel bill waiting around for the groups games to finish to be officially eliminated..

I like that Hungary brought on a prop forward to play up front near the end.

Yea just saw that definitely a penalty.

Listening to Andy Robertson, he was clearly in a different game. “Gave it everything” – no, you bloody didn’t! 15 mins of slightly up tempo football at the end of a dismal display doesn’t equal everything. Or if it does, that’s why you’re going home.  I’ll never understand why teams in that position don’t just go balls out and to hell with it; out if you lose, out if you draw – just bloody go for it!

I watched the Germany Switzerland match. It was great! Switzerland really pretty unlucky not to win that imo.

Maybe I just don’t understand football, but for me, if you’re not a great team then why aren’t you just swinging in every ball you can into a big striker, either to score directly or indirectly from a knockdown. I know it’s a bit rubbish to watch but you need to play to your strengths and at least get some attempts on goal.

The Dog and Duck might well put in a better shift, even if they had been on the lash the night before

Engerland also deserve being on the next plane home on the strength of their performances so far

Pretty cagey for 90 mins. Glad both teams really went for it in the last 10 mins. Draw didn’t help anyone and it would’ve been rubbish if they wimpered out at nil nil. That last passage of play was quite something.

Definitely a penalty but the better team won I think.

Hardly glorious failure, four shots on target in three games, got what we deserved. Not helped by injuries but the formation in each game was odd, plenty of square pegs and round holes.

I’d rather we didn’t qualify for big tournaments if those are the performances we’re going to give.

It’s a relief we’re out and I can enjoy the rest of the tournament.

Well we didn’t even qualify so our fans missed out on the atmosphere and fun at just being at a tournament. It’s magic when you’re at one.

Over the whole three games I have no complaints The players gave their all the manager did his best. Not sure a change of manager would bring any improvement. The fans should enjoy the night as best they can. Hope the Hungarian boy is ok

Really? they were absolutely shocking against Germany and today not a great deal better. Sure they had a few injuries but there was no excuse for the performance over the 3 games. 2nd lowest amount of shots recorded at the euros since they started counting in the 80s apparently

Scotland just lacked quality. Static players playing to another static player with so little attacking threat or menace that it doesn’t surprise me we went out.

The ability to control the ball with 1st touch and move it quickly and accurately seems beyond us when compared to other countries. Maybe we need to introduce fussball to school to try and build some skill

    gordimhor

Nope no complaints not many good enough players to pick from in the first place, and seven in total out through injury you know that when you see Ralston playing but very much 2nd choice at Celtic
There’s a question mark over some of Clark’s decisions but who is better than him and available? Derek Macinnes maybe.

    Caher

All about producing quality right through every age group. Look at Portugal only 10 million people but their reserves could probably win the tournament.

I know it’s a cliche to say ‘it’s tournament football’ but it is

Sitting back to grind out a draw just isn’t going to cut it. You need to attack. Might as well get beat 7-0 having had a pop than lose 1-0 to a last minute goal when you’ve offered absolutely nothing but a parked bus for 100 minutes

And that applies to Engerland as much as Scotlandshire. Slow, lethargic, totally devoid of any pace, creativity  or intent.  Absolutely ****ing woeful to watch

The swift counter attacking winner that Hungary scored. Scotland – and probably England – would have butchered that. The timing of the runs, weight of the pass, calmness of the finish, seem alien to us.

People have forgotten how to enjoy sports.

It was a great game of terrible football, brilliant atmosphere, cagey, nervy, desperate, and just what tournament football is all about.

That pen needs some explaining. Sat there waiting for the game to get pulled back. Harsh.

I think our problem was that we were still trying to play a system that relied on Robertson, Tierney and Hickey creating chances from the flanks. With two of those players and Dykes also missing we needed a different approach but we didn’t have one. With the option of 5 subs Clarke could’ve been bolder and made a change in the first half once he saw how Hungary were sitting back. But that’s not his nature and in his defense a 1-0 win would probably have been enough so I think he decided that Hungary would have to come on to us a bit more and he was waiting for that.

I see Harry Kane has attended the same school of media training as Rishi Sunak 😂

I thought Kane’s comments re: ex-international pundits were farcical. He’s basically saying be nice to us even though we’re under-performing. They are supposed to be professional sportsmen.

But give him some credit it’s not nearly as stupid as Southgate’s Kalvin Phillips comments. Southgate appears to have completely lost the plot.

That’s not my read of it. He’s saying that you run the risk of making us even worse by destroying what little confidence we have. If you think that the way to get a better performance out of someone is to be shitty to them then.. well.. I’m very glad you’re not my boss.

The comments, like yours, just sound like moaning teenagers.  It’s not fair people expect me to do my job and perform to a high level

Lineker isn’t their boss though, is he? And he wasn’t being shitty to Kane, he offered some perfectly valid points as to why, perhaps, that wasn’t his finest moment in an England shirt, including why he thought Kane needed additional support around him to do better.

If that has instantly destroyed his psyche after years of being pumped up by the British media, god help him.

Also, Lineker may not have won international trophies with England, but he won plenty of other stuff in some of the toughest leagues in the world, unlike Kane.

And he responded to similar criticism during Mexico 86 by knocking in a hattrick against Poland with a broken wrist.

The group games started badly. We lost to Portugal and drew with Morocco. We had the Bryan Robson injury and Ray Wilkins got sent off for throwing the ball at the ref. Things were going against us, and we were getting hammered by the media – although without the internet in those days, you didn’t know quite how bad it was! The mood in the camp was still great, though.I was as guilty as anyone for the poor results and could have been dropped for Poland.

Maybe the England team could avoid Tik Tok and other such media for a couple off weeks. But what do i know – the Sun doesn’t do an expose of my love/drug/drink/gambling issues because i bought the wrong software.

I thought Kane was bang on, Shearers rant at the end of the Denmark match was way more embarrassing than any of the players performances.

We turned the sound down and it looked like a fast show sketch.

It was way over the top from former ‘underperformers’

Fair point – this isn’t a Southgate/current squad issue, it’s a systemic problem with English/Scottish football for decades.

We all want to see competitive success and stylish classy football. But at the end of the day, it’s 22 blokes kicking a bag of air round a field. If it affects your mood or sense of worth so much, avoid it, it’s not worth it.

Getting this criticism could be what a good manager would use to build team spirit & get everyone firing on all cylinders.

It has yet to be seen if Southgate is a good manager.

He’s now England’s third longest serving manager.
