I’m not so sure as he’s 25 now. Ronaldo signed for Real aged 24 after several stellar seasons for ManYoo in all competitions. PSG might dominate Ligue 1 but that is not really a competitive league and the overall standard is still lower than late 2000s Prem. Mbappe has been great for PSG domestically but they’ve often struggled in Europe and he can be anonymous in games (same accusation for Haaland)
Mbappe has been consistently surrounded by fantastic players in the France team whereas Ronaldo has had some mixed quality teammates in a Portugal shirt .. e.g. Bruno Alves?
You’re all talking about the wrong Ronaldo! Mbappe has had a similar trajectory in some ways and he’s overdue a move to a top league. Ronaldo (Luís Nazário de Lima) proved himself in Spain and Italy when they were the best leagues in the world. He was twice Ballon d’Or winner and 3 times FIFA world player of the year plus 2 World Cups – and that was with best part of 3 years of being injured at his peak age. Mbappe has some way to go yet.
Ronaldo, or R9 as the kids call him, was on a completely different level to Mbappe and by 25 was without doubt the best player of his generation. Shame the injuries destroyed him.
R9 was a little prone to weight gain and fitness loss especially when injured but he was a far deadlier striker than Mbappe is at the moment. He didn’t just rely on blistering speed but had a box of tricks as well and incredible ball control.
Danny Murphy, who somehow manages to be an even worse commentator than Steve McManomanomanomanoman (quite some achievement) seems to be watching a different match from me
Binners – one Murphy gem tonight was that only players feet should count for offside. Really don’t get what the pundits add during the game, just have a commentator and do the analysis at half time.
I actually thought that one had a certain logic to it. I always think it’s a bit harsh when a player is judged offside because his head was a bit further forward.
But generally he was full of shite.
Was rooting for the Czechs there, as I used to live in Prague, but a draw would have flattered them a bit tbh
Aye, is it not possible to spend 10 mins talking about the game being played? I’ve no problem with bias from the commentators, there was plenty of bias when England played.
