A bit better from England, and ridiculous hyperbole from the BBC.

Rice is great at what he does, but if I was uber-picky I’d like one more thing. I know his role is a defensive midfielder, and I know the pundits said he hasn’t been as effective for England because he doesn’t have the movement ahead of him – but just once or twice getting the ball and driving a few yards to see what can open up would just ask a slightly different question.

Trippier definitely a square peg in a round hole at left wing back!

Going downhill now. But will Southgate actually use his subs?

They have no pace. Gordon and Watkins needed.

Southgate showing he means business, makes changes and gets an instant impact, how folk are on his back i’ll never know.

Two goals interspersed by an hour or so of walking football.

    5 great pens

You couldn’t really hope for 5 better penalty takers. I was pretty confident when I saw who was taking them.

Much better performance against a decent side. More super subs from Southgate: )

Short penalty run ups don’t do anything for my nerves…

fair play though, they were good pens.

let’s try and avoid them though eh?

It’s odd seeing England just chilling with pens

A better performance, but the subs need to come before England have faded, and  allowed the opposition to take control and score.

Hate penalties, mainly because certain media tend to crucify certain  penalty missers. Must admit, I was very relieved to see some of them go in.

    Five good penalties 🙂

That looked a happy team at the end – all good there

(Apparent’y Southgates ‘won’ more knockout tournament games than all other managers since 1966 put together.  Maybe he’s not a woke, lily livered idiot holding back a team of plucky blokes)

Tell me. At least with Psycho you knew what you were getting, a run up starting from the next postcode and woe betide the groundsman who hasn’t used the long pegs on the net.

His penalty in ’96 is indelibly etched in my memory.

    P.s. Go Turkey!

Oh dear, what a truly abysmal game. Turkish player throws himself to the floor, Dutch player booked. And repeat.

That’s going to worry all the others in the last 4. England used to be known for being bad at penalties so the opposition would play for the draw and win the shoot-out. That’s not looking such a good strategy with the current England crop.

Maybe there will be an expansive game of football in the semi-final won in regulation time as a result.

England v Holland, two teams more than capable of a 0-0 draw despite awful defending. Koeman was pretty average as a defender and it shows with this team. We’re in Kilkenny, we watched the England game in the pub with an England supporting Irish barman and now we’re watching the Dutch game with some Dutch fans back at the campsite. Great fun.

Koeman was a great player, he got Graham Taylor sacked for hauling down a striker in USA 94 qualifying.

Without him there would’ve been no Terry Venables Euro 96.

Koeman was a great player but he couldn’t defend. Luckily for him he had Gullit etc all round about him.

Couldn’t defend? ???  who could then?

I have a feeling England would rather play Holland than Turkey – more of a known quantity.
