    After my wife and two girls being involved in a bump yesterday that could have been worse both in terms of physical harm done and attitude of others involved it’s probably time I purchased that Dashcam I’ve been thinking about before the horse fully bolts.

    I’ve seen FitCamX mentioned on a couple of threads and tried googling for user experiences but though I would ask on here as well. Things I like about them are that they are integrated into the mirror housing so I don’t have to have something separate stuck to the windscreen and they also take power from the rain sensor so I don’t need to worry about tapping into fuse boxes. What I don’t like is it being a relative unknown.

    Who here has one and how are you getting on? Have read some reviews regarding problems looping recordings but they seem to be a year or so old, anyone here having that issue?

    I installed a front and rear red tiger camera 4k version. Hasn’t been used in anger but seems to work when I’ve accessed the content via the app.

    I might buy another camera for another car at some point. I’d make sure it had a Sony starvis chip in it. As for all the names I know I recognise the Sony brand but usually not the camera brand.

    Have had the fitcamx in my wifes car for about 6 months now.  I was taken to task on another thread on here where it kind of came across i was spying on my wife because it was so discreet but the fact she helped me fit it shows i am not some creep.

    Anyhow i would thoroughly recommend as a fit and forget.  It took about 10 mins to fit and looks 100% factory.  It doesnt need any user input other than remove the SD car if & when you want to review some footage.  There is an app where you can download wirelessly but it takes forever.   I had to replace the sd card the police confiscated and all it took was format and put it in.   It is right in front of the mirror so gives perfect vision and camera quality imo is fine.

    If you check up on my thread, it helped the police in an incident where a motorcyclist was nearly killed with no other person involved.  Really pleased with our purchase.

    I fitted the front version on my Polestar a couple of weeks back (I think it’s powered by the auto-dimming rear view mirror feed in my case). I’m absolutely useless when it comes to DIY type stuff (and was pretty sure I’d end up breaking the plastic housing or something) but it was very easy and took about 10 minutes (although I did watch a couple of YouTube videos first to see if there were any gotchas etc., there weren’t). I did have to push at some of the clips a few times to properly seat them, can’t remember any other issues though.

    The only other problem I had was when I went to eject the included microSD card from the unit (just to check what size it was) and apart from noticing something shooting across my peripheral vision I’ve not found it since (but had ordered a 256GB endurance one anyway, which seems to work fine even though they say up to 128GB is supported).

    @TheLittlestHobo I think it was your thread that first made me look into them (not for wife spying duties I might add!). Glad to hear you’ve not had any issues. I like the idea of an easy install and am tempted to even give the back on a go myself as well. They have confirmed that both front and back can work off the power near the mirror unless you want parking cams which I don’t think I’m worried about.

    @FuzzyWuzzy
    interestingly it was a polestar forum that flagged the issues with loop recording. One of the solutions seemed to be using your own, higher quality card so you may have inadvertently solved that one yourself.

    @fuzzywuzzy yes i had that issue when i checked out how to remove an sd card.  Thankfully it landed in the footwell.

    What are the issues with loop recording?  Its kind of a fit and forget item for me.  The only time i will ever check a recording is when i fitted it, i checked after a few months to make sure all ok and when the police confiscated the original sd card.

    If there is an incident i am pretty sure either the system locks the file or i would get a copy of the file that day.

    The issue is that despite being set to loop record over the oldest file first, when the cards got full they just stopped recording but there was no way of knowing. People in August were checking their cards off the back of the thread and finding the last recording on there was from June and such like. Some had to get firmware updates and some bought new, higher quality cards and I think that solved the issue.
