I've actually sat here staring at the screen for 5 minutes thinking about it.

How sad.

Anyway, my favourite is natural singletrack full of mud, roots and rocks, as long as it contains enough natural features to have fun with.

not fast, pumpy, alpine, rocky, forest, sometimes almost at a standstill, off camber, rooty, sporadic glimpses of scenery, sheer drops beside in parts, with little problems in them that involve my arse on the rear tyre and my chest on the saddle 🙂

Tight techy rocky steep.

Wooded, up and downy, with minimal bar clearance between trees

Dry, fast, flowing- not too steep, twisty and technical so that I'm on the brakes all the time.

favourite singletrack?

It's all good as long as it points downhill! 😉

If pushed though, steep uber technical natural stuff, off the beaten path, in Morzine and Les Gets. Kind of trails that you only find out about by speaking to people "in the know", and that would be best ridden on a chuckable hardtail with a long travel single crown fork than a DH full susser...

Of what I've ridden so far at least...

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record: Trail 403/402 Crested Butte.

Some nice flowy dry dusty and buff with enough technical interest to keep you focused...

Failing that I'll settle for this:

I can dream...

Flowing but not fast, for me, fast trails are over in a blur and a whoosh, I like something I can pick my way over. Zoom or bust at Glentress suits me very nicely...

them pics are amazing, id love to go somewhere like that, my favourite bit of single track would have to be a long downhill section with berms and tabletops/jumps and northshore inbetween 😀

@ MetalHeart Is that Joe's Ridge in Fruita? Amazing stuff...

I'd go for the Sovereign trails in Moab. Intense and full-on fun for as long as you can stay out there. Hmmmmmm..................

Sorry. My mind wandered off there.

slightly downhill, fast swoopy bends through thick wood so you have to drop your shoulder to clear trees now and again, with plenty of roots, in the dry!

Fast Rocky Singletrack, not full of big rocks but nice compounded stuff, not so much trail centre more natural. need to sample a lot more though to form a better opinion. 😆

Something that stays rideable all year round, has a very slightly downward slope, about twelve inches wide, few roots and rocks for getting air and keeping you honest and has a few cheeky overtaking options. Can think of at least four near where I live. Hit squad hill, pie run, mushroom pie etc at Glentress not too shabby either.

I much prefer natural stuff to trail centres. Trail Centres are usually just bad weather options for me. One of my favourite trails starts up above the tree line and descends into the woods. It has some very fast bits and enough technical bits to keep things interesting. I like technical but not so technical that it slows me down too much.

At the moment I'd settle for anything dry.

Else: swoopy, twisty, smooth with the odd rock garden thrown in to keep you on your toes.

Cynic-al....I.m pretty sure that's La Varda in Les Arc. Never done it but am desperate too!

My favorite singletrack to date is a tie between Helter Skelter into Vedi,Vici whatsit above Bourg St Maurice or Wales own Doethie Valley (only done it once and it was muddy and fun as hell)!

For me it's to feel like the speederbike chase in return of the jedi, if it's not flat out and flowing through tight trees it doesn't feel right. Personally hoppy-poppy-rocky-droppy singletrack is fab, but doesn't give me the same zen-like calm I get after a really eyeballs out flowing ride.

Picture 4 or 5 minutes of built track, with berms, jumps, rollers, everything except braking bumps. The sort of stuff you can ride on any bike, but it you REALLY go for it suddenly becomes quite difficultc. Hitting berms at 20mph easilly, but they had jumps before them, so I was preety much having to jump into the berms... THen add to this another 10 minutes or so of perfect singletrack, so single in fact that at some points the path was just squashed flowers.... Riding through an alpine meadow round lakes. There were natural berms, drop offs, jumps, some proper sketchy corners where if you got it wrong you were having an early bath. Followed by another 5 minutes of reeeeeeaaaaaally fast rocky fireroad. I never thought fire road would be fun, except i went down rather hard, and couldnt ride the next day....

Yeah, Al's pic is La Varda at Les Arcs (aka Hans Blix )

I find it really hard to see past this, which has the major bonus of finishing by my front door.

gentle downhill, smooth dust or undulating short grass, the sort of stuff ypu can ride very fast, very easily 🙂 loads of footpaths seem to have stuff that would be amazing for riding, and i may have to visit these nirvanas either early morning or late evening in the summer 😉

oh god what a question. it has to have everything in it i think. high speed swoops and roller coaster sections, drops (not jumps too much thinking unless you know the trail) some rocky bits some rooty bits.
i don't think there is any downward direction non muddy singletrack i don't like?

I'd say sick trail and l'avancher secret bowl, the hard one, both in chamonix, they both have everything i could wish for in a trail, and bel lachat trail pretty good too.

Any singletrack away from roads / traffic.
Ideally leading toward a decent pub.
